Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ronnie Whiteford (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Young (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ronnie Whiteford!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jake Young!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whiteford tries to land a front kick but Young steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Whiteford throws a hook but Young blocks it.
Young stuffs the takedown attempt from Whiteford. Whiteford gets slowly back to his feet.

Whiteford gets tackled into the cage by Young. Young maintains the clinch.

Whiteford jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Young walks away with a smile on his face. Whiteford gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Whiteford had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Young defends it easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Young darts in and clinches Whiteford up against the cage.

Young keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Young lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Young shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Whiteford manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Whiteford wants to stand and escape but Young is having none of it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Young closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Whiteford quickly recovers to half guard.
Whiteford is trying to escape back to his feet but Young uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Young controls the position from side control.
Whiteford takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee asks Young politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Young prefers to stall for the moment though.

Young cracks Whiteford with a big right hand but Whiteford just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Young is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Whiteford will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Whiteford takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Young has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Young closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Whiteford's guard.
Young is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Young throws a leg kick which misses Whiteford's front leg but catches the back leg as Whiteford tries to avoid it.

Young rushes Whiteford and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Whiteford is trying to pull guard but Young has him pressed against the cage.

Young breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Jake Young comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Young has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Jake Young was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
