PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ira Dyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Conor Ruttenum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Ruttenum 's choice of entrance music: Run this town. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Ira Dyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Conor Ruttenum !
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Ackerman and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ruttenum decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Dyer is pressing down on Ruttenum 's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Ruttenum decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Dyer, up you get!
Ruttenum connects with a leg kick. Dyer looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Ruttenum moves into range and clinches up with Dyer.
Ruttenum lands with a short shot to the head.

Dyer jumps into guard, dragging Ruttenum to the mat.
Ruttenum in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Ruttenum has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ruttenum wants to stand but Dyer has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Dyer has control of Ruttenum 's left arm, preventing Ruttenum from doing any damage.
Ruttenum chips away with some ground and pound.


It looks like Ira Dyer has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ruttenum trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dyer has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Ruttenum has passed into side control.

Ruttenum decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Dyer avoids the head kick by Ruttenum .
Ruttenum scores with a one two! Dyer had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Ruttenum cracks a nice hook into Dyer's ribs.

Ruttenum moves into the clinch.
Dyer jumps guard but Ruttenum stands there with Dyer around his waist. Dyer gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Dyer tries to pull guard but Ruttenum holds him up against the cage and eventually Dyer drops back down to his feet.

Dyer has Ruttenum pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Dyer pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Ruttenum tumbling to the mat - Dyer dives into Ruttenum 's guard.

Ruttenum has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Dyer has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dyer can't break the clinch.
Dyer looking to slow down the pace here.
Dyer goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ruttenum prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ira Dyer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dyer is breathing heavily.
Ruttenum lands a nice knee to the body.

Ruttenum decides to pull guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ruttenum controls Dyer momentarily but Dyer frees himself.

Ruttenum has his foot on Dyer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dyer works his way back into a safe position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ruttenum has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Dyer is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Ruttenum comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Ruttenum .
Ruttenum softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.

Dyer pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Ruttenum has Dyer up against the cage in a clinch.

Ruttenum breaks from the clinch.
Ruttenum thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Dyer if he has to take too many more of those.
Whack! Ruttenum lands a heavy head kick that drops Dyer. The ref tackles Ruttenum to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Dyer was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Conor Ruttenum !
A less than humble Conor Ruttenum misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
