The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jilom lands with a nice combination. Kristapoff backs away looking to recover.

and Kristapoff counters with a single leg into guard. Jilom didn't expect that.

Kristapoff thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Kristapoff has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kristapoff is in close to Jilom's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Jilom is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jilom really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kristapoff. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Kristapoff drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kristapoff jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Kristapoff drops back looking for a leg! Jilom is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jilom manages to kick Kristapoff off! Kristapoff jumps back into Jilom's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jilom has momentary wrist control but Kristapoff slips an elbow through the middle.
Kristapoff makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Jilom pulls Kristapoff in close to his closed guard and prevents Kristapoff from doing any damage or advancing position.
