PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Damo Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Simpson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by damo's gay shite. Jeff Simpson has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Damo Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jeff Simpson!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Peter Branson and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Jones was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones cracks Simpson with a big right hand but Simpson just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
You can see the frustration on Simpson's face as Jones controls the position.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Jones decides to stand up, so the ref orders Simpson to his feet.
Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Simpson tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Simpson to the ground. Simpson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Simpson throws a counter combo.
Jones plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Jones throws a head kick that half lands.
Jones shoots in for a double leg but Simpson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Jones sets himself, and Simpson steps forward looking for the clinch! Jones avoids it this time.

Simpson throws a counter combo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jones tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Simpson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Simpson looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Simpson manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Simpson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Jones throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Simpson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jones is in Simpson's guard.

Jones could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Jones is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jones fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Simpson checks it well.

and Simpson counters with a nice body shot.

Jones closes the distance and clinches.

Simpson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Simpson, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Simpson against the cage but Simpson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Jones scores with a head kick. Simpson tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Jones shoots in but no luck this time.
Simpson steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Jones.

A close round but Jeff Simpson will probably get the nod.

Simpson has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Jones has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Simpson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Simpson creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Well Simpson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
