PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Manus Dinapoli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Hales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dinapoli's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Cavo - Thick As Thieves. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Manus Dinapoli!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Hales!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Daniel Blasius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hales shoots in looking for a takedown. Dinapoli tries to sprawl out of it but Hales keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dinapoli manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Hales fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hales is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Dinapoli stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Hales drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Dinapoli connects with a good right hand that stumbles Hales. Hales circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
A nice inside leg kick there by Dinapoli. That's going to slow Hales down.
Manus Dinapoli seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hales tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dinapoli swivels and escapes.
Manus Dinapoli has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Hales.

I was talking to Dinapoli's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Dinapoli rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hales moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hales has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hales closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dinapoli circles away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Dinapoli enables Hales to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dinapoli manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Dinapoli bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hales's guard.

Dinapoli seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

That was a close second round but I would say that Manus Dinapoli will probably get the nod.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
