PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Todd Hofmann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron Kaufmann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Todd Hofmann!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Aaron Kaufmann!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Marco Blurström and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hofmann scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Kaufmann is trying to maintain the position but Hofmann is very close to passing his half guard.
Kaufmann is pressing down on Hofmann's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Kaufmann looking for subs off his back but Hofmann has passed one foot through into half guard.
Hofmann looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hofmann tries to stand and escape but Kaufmann is controlling the position.

Kaufmann manages to get to full guard.
Kaufmann controls Hofmann momentarily but Hofmann frees himself.
Kaufmann should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Kaufmann preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Kaufmann is trying to hold Hofmann in close to prevent damage but Hofmann has managed to pass into half guard.
Hofmann trying to control from half guard but Kaufmann is working away.
Hofmann knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kaufmann on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Kaufmann is looking to control Hofmann's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kaufmann avoid being mounted?

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Hofmann gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hofmann breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hofmann fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kaufmann tries to counter by closing the distance.
Hofmann circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kaufmann will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hofmann tries to counter by clinching up but Kaufmann breaks away and moves out of range.
Hofmann really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Hofmann is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kaufmann's half guard.
Kaufmann is looking for a sweep. Hofmann is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kaufmann is trying to control but can't.
Hofmann slows the pace down in half guard.

Hofmann seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kaufmann for as long as he can get away with.
Kaufmann wants to improve his position but Hofmann is controlling well.
Hofmann wants to take a breather but Kaufmann is having none of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hofmann tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kaufmann was well out of range. Poor timing from Hofmann.
Kaufmann let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Todd Hofmann dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Hofmann tries to work over Kaufmann's front leg with a kick but Kaufmann checks it.

Hofmann clinches up with Kaufmann and pushes him back against the cage.

Hofmann manages to break the clinch.
Kaufmann throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hofmann's waist but Hofmann gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kaufmann off to one side.
An inside leg kick from Kaufmann misses.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hofmann.

Hofmann tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
You can see the frustration on Kaufmann's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee asks Hofmann politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hofmann prefers to stall for the moment though.
Hofmann is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kaufmann can do to turn this around?
Kaufmann wants to control but Hofmann postures up.
Kaufmann manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Kaufmann is looking for a sweep. Hofmann is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kaufmann gets back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Hofmann shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kaufmann's guard.
Hofmann is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Kaufmann looking for a guillotine here but Hofmann defends easily.

Kaufmann looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Hofmann is defending well. Kaufmann quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Hofmann has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Kaufmann celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
