HFC 253 Dangerous Game PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zane Mason and Optimus Prime. Optimus Prime told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 wins, 7 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of Los Angeles, Zane Mason!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 wins, 7 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of Los Angeles, Optimus Prime!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Percy O'Donnell and Timothy Bukovac.



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mason lands a nice shot that snaps Prime's head back.
We've been told by Mason's head coaches at Cylon Training Academy that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Prime tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Prime has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Prime tries to clinch but fails miserably
letting Mason counter with a right hand.
Prime will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Prime misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Mason throws a good cross that connects.

Prime throws a strike aimed at the side of Mason's head but Mason avoids it well.

The ground and pound from Prime seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Mason is looking to regain half guard here but Prime keeps moving and retains side control.

Prime breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mason ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
It looked like Mason was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Prime throws the left hand but Mason avoids the punch easily.
Optimus Prime seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd cheers as Mason lands an impressive looking overhand right. Prime doesn't seem phased though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Prime uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Mason.
And Prime tries to counter it with a takedown but Mason pushes his down on his head and steps out.

As Prime tries to get set, Mason tries to push him back and clinch up but Prime manages to avoid the attempt.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mason got a little sloppy there for a moment and Prime has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mason has managed to get both his arms back between Prime's legs - danger averted.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Mason feints and then cracks Prime's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Prime down.

Mason seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
