PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jim Hogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Tapout (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 1, fighting out of London, Jim Hogan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Mr Tapout!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Steven Brown and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tapout gets caught flat footed, as Hogan shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Hogan stands and steps away. Tapout gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Hogan shoots in but no luck this time.
Tapout lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
A cross from Tapout lands.
Tapout swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Hogan wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Hogan shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Tapout napping and manages to drive through into side control!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tapout wants to get back to his feet but Hogan is dominant here and he's now got Tapout's back!
Hogan controls the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Tapout is trying to get back to his feet but Hogan has full control of the position and if anything, Tapout has just worked his way into a worse spot.
What can Tapout do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Tapout wants to get back to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tapout is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Hogan is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Tapout is trying to stand back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Hogan dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Hogan closes the distance and clinches up with Tapout, looking for a takedown. Hogan pushes Tapout against the cage but Tapout circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Tapout is looking for the big counter here.
We've been informed that Tapout has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Hogan avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tapout lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hogan circles away quickly and effectively.
Tapout misses with a few strikes there.
Hogan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tapout lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Hogan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Tapout as he avoids it easily.

Hogan moves into the clinch successfully.

Tapout has had enough of the clinch but Hogan keeps him there for the moment.
Hogan changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Tapout fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Hogan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Tapout gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Tapout is wriggling around but Hogan manages to pass to half guard.

Hogan takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Hogan decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Tapout lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Hogan tries to clinch up but Tapout circles away and keeps his distance.

Tapout is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Tapout throws a combination that misses

and Hogan counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hogan.

Tapout gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hogan.
Tapout misses with a hook from the clinch.
Hogan changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Tapout fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Tapout unleashes a big counter combination but Hogan bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Tapout misses with a double jab.
Sloppy strikes from Tapout. Those never looked like landing.
Mr Tapout seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Hogan moves into the clinch.
Tapout prevents a takedown attempt there.
Tapout lands a right hand.
Tapout is trying to push Hogan away but Hogan has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Hogan wants to take the fight to the mat but Tapout manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Tapout is trying to break the clinch but Hogan is controlling him.
Tapout wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Tapout blocks the elbow strike.
Tapout tries to work over Hogan's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tapout is trying to break free.
Tapout wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Tapout tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Hogan's elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mr Tapout showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Tapout misses with a double jab

and Hogan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Hogan controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Hogan seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Tapout for as long as he can get away with.
Hogan has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tapout is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hogan is controlling him.

Tapout wants to get back to his feet but Hogan passes into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Hogan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Tapout rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hogan moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Hogan looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Tapout is fending him off so far but Hogan persists. Nope, Tapout circles away and we're back to standing.
Tapout looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

A right-left combo lands from Tapout.
Hogan shoots in and drives through. Tapout sprawls well.
Tapout unleashes a big counter combination but Hogan bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Hogan fails with a takedown attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Tapout will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mr Tapout comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Tapout has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
