Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jake Kirby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brad Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brad Shields acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jake Kirby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brad Shields!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, William Gold and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shields throws a low kick but Kirby avoids it.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Shields has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Shields throws a solid leg kick but Kirby takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Shields.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Kirby cracks the inside of Shields's front leg.
Shields walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Kirby checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Kirby throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
An inside leg kick lands from Kirby.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shields tries for a takedown but Kirby sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Kirby avoids a punch combination nicely.

Kirby tries a head kick but it misses.
Shields tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kirby manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kirby connects with a solid leg kick.
Shields changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kirby tries to avoid it but Shields manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kirby to the ground. Kirby escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Shields misses with a lunging right hand
and Kirby counters with a nice low kick that buckles Shields's knee momentarily.
Shields misses with an uppercut
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
A good leg kick by Kirby.
Nice takedown defense from Kirby. No joy for Shields on that attempt.
Kirby jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Jake Kirby has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brad Shields.
Shields throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kirby sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Kirby throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kirby moves away from the strike by Shields.
Shields takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
A nice inside leg kick there by Kirby. That's going to slow Shields down.
Shields chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Kirby can pounce on him.
Shields throws a right hand that misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kirby throws a low kick but Shields avoids it.
Kirby scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Shields takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Jake Kirby is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Shields tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Kirby lands with a thumping leg kick.
Kirby tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Both fighters circling a little - Kirby finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Kirby throws a low kick but it's checked well by Shields.
Shields is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

so Shields counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Shields missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Shields looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shields working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shields prevents Kirby from getting back to his feet.
Shields trying to control the position from guard on top but Kirby is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Kirby dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kirby lands a nice leg kick that just misses Shields's sensitive parts.
Shields misses with a hook to the body
and Kirby counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Kirby tries to sprawl but Shields drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Shields looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Shields is controlling the pace.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kirby avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Shields.
Shields is trying to control the action in half guard but Kirby is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Kirby is trying to stand back up but Shields is controlling him
Shields looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Shields connects with a nice short shot to Kirby's temple.
Kirby pushes Shields off looking to stand but Shields dives back in and keeps control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Shields wants to control but Kirby is keeping him busy.
Kirby knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shields on the ground.
Kirby wants to stand back up but Shields manages to pass into side control.
Shields throws an elbow but Kirby slips to the side and avoids it well.
Shields staying calm.
Shields has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Kirby wants to get back to his feet.

Shields is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kirby knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Shields advances to full mount.
We've been hearing good reports from Kirby's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Kirby is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Shields throwing strikes here but Kirby is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Kirby avoids a series of strikes thrown by Shields.
Shields looking to control but Kirby is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Shields is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Kirby can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Kirby is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Shields can do to turn this around?

Brad Shields showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Kirby throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Shields takes a kick to the side of the head.
Shields's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Kirby lands with a kick to the ribs.
Kirby scores with a nice body kick.

Shields stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kirby swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Shields is standing up over Kirby. Kirby looks to escape but Shields dives into side control.
Shields working the ground and pound but Kirby is defending the strikes.

Shields tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Shields wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kirby, who protects the arm well.
Shields moves into full mount!

Shields is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Kirby has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Shields has control of Kirby's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Kirby regains control of the situation pretty easily.
You get the feeling that Kirby really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Brad Shields has got the better of the ground game so far.

Shields working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Shields has control of Kirby's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Kirby regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Shields is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kirby to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kirby shrugs it off.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kirby wants to get back to his feet.
Shields controlling his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Brad Shields.
I think Shields has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
