PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Korey Gaines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Blake Bunker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blake Bunker will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Korey Gaines!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Blake Bunker!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yukihiro Shimada and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bunker rushes Gaines and presses him up against the cage.

Bunker has picked Gaines up - he's going for a ride! Bunker dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Bunker is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bunker lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Bunker throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gaines works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bunker throws a big right hand that misses.

Bunker decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
No joy there for Bunker, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Bunker fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Gaines to the ground. Bunker is now in Gaines's guard.
Gaines controls Bunker momentarily but Bunker frees himself.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gaines is on top in guard.


That's one minute gone in the round.
Gaines looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Bunker throws his legs up looking for a submission but Gaines uses it to pass to side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Bunker wants to get back to his feet but Gaines drags him back down.
A lull in the action here as Gaines stalls from top position.
Gaines really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The ground and pound from Gaines seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Gaines cracks Bunker with a big right hand but Bunker just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Gaines throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Gaines will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Gaines is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Bunker moves into the clinch successfully.
Bunker tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Bunker pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Bunker will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Bunker closes the distance and clinches.
Nice elbow from Gaines.
Bunker with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Gaines drops down looking for an ankle pick but Bunker pulls his leg out and moves away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Bunker gets caught flat footed, as Gaines shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gaines's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Bunker darts in and clinches Gaines up against the cage.

Bunker is fighting to break Gaines's control of his arms but Gaines is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Bunker has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Bunker connects with a couple of short punches.

Bunker postures up in Gaines's guard and throws a big left but Gaines blocks it.
Gaines is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bunker tries to get to full guard but Gaines has control of the leg.

Bunker wants to control but Gaines is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Bunker tries to roll over but Gaines keeps him under control.
Bunker keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close second round but I would say that Korey Gaines will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Bunker takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Bunker looks to land a strike but Gaines avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Bunker throws an elbow that misses. Gaines uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Bunker's guard. Nice move by Gaines!

Gaines is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

I think Bunker has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
