PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Del Kent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eloy Ryan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Del Kent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eloy Ryan!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, David Schapiro and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kent tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Ryan manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kent takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Ryan gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Ryan gets underhooks to prevent Kent's takedown attempt.
Ryan has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Ryan scores with a shoulder strike.
Kent jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ryan walks away with a smile on his face. Kent gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Ryan drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Ryan stands up and beckons Kent to his feet.

Ryan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kent, pushing him back against the cage.
Kent has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Ryan is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Del Kent. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ryan has Kent pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Ryan pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Kent tumbling to the mat - Ryan dives into Kent's guard.

Ryan gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Ryan drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Ryan content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Ryan trying to control but Kent is working from the bottom.
Ryan prevents Kent from getting back to his feet.
Kent avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Kent is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ryan is aware though and is defending well.
Ryan stops Kent from standing up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kent being controlled here, momentarily.

Ryan has gone for a leg lock! Kent slips out almost immediately though and dives into Ryan's guard.

Ryan wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Kent manages to pass to side control.
Ryan tries to roll over but Kent keeps him under control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kent throwing shots but Ryan is blocking nicely.
Ryan wants to get back to his feet.
Ryan is looking to improve his position.
Ryan keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Kent prevents Ryan from improving his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kent not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Ryan closes the distance and pushes Kent back into the cage.

Ryan pulls Kent into guard.
Kent is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Kent trying to control the position from guard on top but Ryan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ryan pulls Kent in close to prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eloy Ryan dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Ryan shoots in and bounces Kent off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Kent preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Kent is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Ryan trying to control the position from guard on top but Kent is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ryan looking to pass the guard.
Kent trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Ryan looking to sit in guard and control but Kent gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Kent is looking to stand up but Ryan won't let him.
Ryan pulls Kent in to control the position.
Ryan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Ryan is pulling down on Kent's head to control his posture.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kent trying to control but Ryan is working from the bottom.
Ryan has momentary wrist control but Kent slips an elbow through the middle.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Ryan shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kent napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Kent is looking for a sweep.
Kent is trying to buck Ryan off.

Ryan decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Kent fails with a takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ryan moves into the clinch.
Kent is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Ryan to keep the fight standing.

Kent breaks from the clinch.

Ryan shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Ryan drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ryan jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Kent striking off his back but it's not causing Ryan any problems.
Ryan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Kent is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Kent works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Ryan scrambles and gets back to his feet.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Ryan drives through with a takedown into Kent's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Kent manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ryan has picked Kent up - he's going for a ride! Ryan dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Ryan not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Eloy Ryan has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kent tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Ryan throwing shots but Kent is blocking nicely.
Kent tries to kick Ryan off but Ryan keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Kent is not content to let Ryan control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Eloy Ryan will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Ryan scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Kent is trying to stand up here but Ryan is controlling him well.
Kent misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Kent is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Ryan decides to return to a standing position.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kent.

Ryan darts in and clinches Kent up against the cage.

Kent is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Ryan pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ryan tries to break free but Kent pushes him back against the cage.

Ryan turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Ryan manages to end up in side control.
Kent tries to get back to half guard but can't.
A lull in the action here.
Ryan tries to advance to mount but Kent denies him.

Ryan decides to stand back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ryan shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kent napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Kent managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Ryan.

Ryan tries for a kimura but Kent is defending well.
Ryan wants to control but Kent is keeping him busy.

Ryan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kent, who protects the arm well.
Kent trying to remain calm as Ryan controls from the top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ryan is looking to take a break and control but Kent is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kent wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Kent is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Ryan is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Ryan throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Kent tries to hold on but Ryan postures up.
Ryan looking to control but Kent is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ryan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Kent flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Ryan blocks Kent's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kent sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Eloy Ryan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ryan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
