The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A short left from Van Clausen.
Smith blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Van Clausen tries to land a knee to the head but Smith blocks with his arms.
A nice right hand lands inside from Van Clausen.
Van Clausen has had enough of the clinch but Smith keeps him there for the moment.

Smith really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Van Clausen is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Smith gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Smith wanted to stand there but Van Clausen had control of the position.

Van Clausen doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Smith lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Van Clausen is looking to sweep but instead, Smith has passed into half guard.
Smith working over Van Clausen with some ground and pound. Van Clausen looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Van Clausen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Smith is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Smith wants to work for an arm triangle but Van Clausen is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Van Clausen does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Smith passes the guard and advances to mount!
Van Clausen is wriggling around trying to escape.

Smith has control of Van Clausen's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Van Clausen regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Smith quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Smith but it's paid off an Van Clausen is forced to tap! Nice work by Smith.
