PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Saint Patrick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Nathan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Patrick kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Jump Around by House of Pain. Robert Nathan has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Saint Patrick's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Saint Patrick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Robert Nathan!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, William Gold and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patrick throws a jab when Nathan was well out of range.
Nathan moves away from the strike by Patrick.
Nathan ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Nathan shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Patrick napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Patrick tries to improve position but can't.
Nathan content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Patrick is looking to regain half guard here but Nathan keeps moving and retains side control.
Nathan is staying tight to Patrick's torso, preventing him from escaping.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
It looks like Nathan might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nathan decides to stand up, so the ref orders Patrick to his feet.

Nathan closes the distance and clinches.

Nathan keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Patrick's efforts to push away.
Nathan slowing the pace effectively.
Patrick blocks the elbow strike.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Nathan.
Patrick wants to get back to striking at distance but Nathan won't allow it.
Patrick has had enough of the clinch but Nathan keeps him there for the moment.
Patrick tries to circle away but Nathan has him pinned against the cage.

Nathan manages to break the clinch.
Nathan uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Patrick.
Patrick misses with a looping left.
Nathan tries to counter with a clinch but Patrick shakes him off and moves away.
Patrick connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Nathan's hands.
Patrick slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Nathan instigates a clinch.
Patrick wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Nathan has him pressed against the cage.

Nathan has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Patrick clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Patrick looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nathan is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Patrick knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Patrick for a finish.
Patrick tries to roll but Nathan sticks to his back.

Nathan not allowing Patrick to control his hands.
Patrick is taking damage to the body and head.

Nathan looking for the RNC.
Nathan controlling the position well here. Patrick rolled but Nathan kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Patrick is in bad spot here.
Patrick wants to control his opponent's hands but Nathan gets his hands free.
Patrick covers up after that shot from Nathan.
Nathan is trying to stick to Patrick's back but Patrick is turning into Nathan. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Nathan's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Patrick.

Nathan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Patrick wants to stand but Nathan is controlling his posture from full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nathan is on top in guard.


Patrick working for a triangle but Nathan defends it easily.
Patrick will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Nathan controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Nathan dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Nathan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Patrick defends well and Nathan ends up having to push Patrick into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Patrick lands a nice shot that snaps Nathan's head back.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Patrick enables Nathan to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Patrick manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Patrick wants to get back to his feet but Nathan passes into half guard.

Nathan looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Patrick with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Nathan connects with a nice short shot to Patrick's temple.

Patrick is trying to control but can't.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Nathan has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Patrick connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Nathan keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Patrick thows a left - swing and a miss!
Nathan is looking for the big counter here.
Nathan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Nathan rushes Patrick and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Nathan manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Nathan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Patrick is one step ahead there.
Nathan is breathing heavily.

Nathan looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Patrick stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nathan swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Patrick is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Patrick stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nathan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Patrick wants to get up but he can't break Nathan's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Nathan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Patrick bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Patrick throws a shot to the body.

Nathan is trying hard to land a takedown here. Patrick sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Patrick is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Nathan.
Nathan wants to counter the offense by Patrick and move into the clinch position.

Patrick has gone for a leg lock! Nathan slips out almost immediately though and dives into Patrick's guard.

Nathan slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Patrick escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nathan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nathan works over Patrick with some ground and pound from guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Nathan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Patrick, who protects the arm well.
Nathan happy to just control the position for now.

Patrick is pushing Nathan's head away, looking to escape. Nathan manages to hold on to the position though.

Nathan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Robert Nathan has got the better of the ground game so far.

Nathan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Robert Nathan comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Nathan winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
