PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kennith Bartlett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Shkreli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kennith Bartlett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Shkreli!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Chad Campbell and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Shkreli or perhaps it was just good defense by Bartlett, which made it look bad.
Bartlett was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

Bartlett gets tackled into the cage by Shkreli. Shkreli maintains the clinch.

Bartlett wants the takedown. Shkreli is fighting it off but Bartlett persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Shkreli's guard against the cage.
Bartlett could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bartlett throwing strikes but missing.
Shkreli looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Bartlett has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shkreli utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Shkreli wants to get back to his feet but Bartlett is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Shkreli seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Bartlett is working Shkreli over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Shkreli escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bartlett gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Shkreli wants to improve his position but instead Bartlett has moved into half guard.
Bartlett looks to land a strike but Shkreli avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Shkreli avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bartlett throws a big elbow that misses.
Bartlett throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Shkreli works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shkreli manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bartlett manages to get himself to full guard.

Shkreli wants to control from the top but Bartlett keeps moving.
Shkreli is looking to pass into half guard but Bartlett pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Bartlett is in guard.


Bartlett avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Bartlett might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Bartlett throws a big elbow that misses.
Shkreli will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Bartlett distracts Shkreli with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bartlett accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bartlett postures up in Shkreli's guard and throws a big left but Shkreli blocks it.

Shkreli is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bartlett defends well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Shkreli feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Bartlett manages to escape and get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bartlett tries for a takedown but Shkreli sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Shkreli shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bartlett as he avoids it easily.
Bartlett attempts a counter takedown but Shkreli avoids it well and moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Shkreli moves into the clinch successfully.
Bartlett tries to pull guard but Shkreli holds him up against the cage and eventually Bartlett drops back down to his feet.
Shkreli wants to break free but Bartlett has control.
Bartlett goes for a takedown in the clinch but Shkreli prevents it.
Bartlett is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Shkreli can do to turn this around?
Bartlett lands a body shot.
Shkreli tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Bartlett just stands there and leans against the cage.
Shkreli tries a knee to the head but Bartlett blocks it.
Shkreli wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bartlett has him pressed against the cage.

Shkreli throws a strike but Bartlett rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Bartlett defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Shkreli.

Kennith Bartlett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Shkreli.
Shkreli is breathing heavily.
Shkreli misses with a takedown attempt - Bartlett sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bartlett tries to counter by clinching up but Shkreli breaks away and moves out of range.

Bartlett changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Shkreli fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Bartlett jumps guard but Shkreli stands there with Bartlett around his waist. Bartlett gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Bartlett has Shkreli pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Bartlett pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Shkreli tumbling to the mat - Bartlett dives into Shkreli's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Shkreli has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Bartlett is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Shkreli.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Shkreli throws an elbow that misses. Bartlett uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Shkreli's guard. Nice move by Bartlett!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Bartlett lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Bartlett throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Shkreli to regain full guard.
Shkreli is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Shkreli is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Shkreli has hold of Bartlett's hands but Bartlett slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Shkreli takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bartlett not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Shkreli is pressing down on Bartlett's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Matt Shkreli has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kennith Bartlett is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bartlett, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
