Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rey Owens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe Griffin will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rey Owens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Griffin!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffin misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Griffin tries to close the distance and clinch but Owens swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Griffin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Griffin shoots in looking for a takedown but Owens manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Griffin's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Owens gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Owens tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Griffin just stands there and leans against the cage.
Griffin putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Owens in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Owens jumps guard but Griffin turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Owens drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Griffin gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Griffin tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Owens has Griffin pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Griffin manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Owens gets control of Griffin's arms and successfully pulls guard. Owens will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Owens is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Griffin is aware though and is defending well.

Owens has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Owens drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Griffin throws Owens to one side and escapes!
Griffin dives in for a single leg takedown but Owens sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Owens is looking to counter with head kicks.
Nice takedown defense from Owens. No joy for Griffin on that attempt.
Owens throws a quick counter head kick but Griffin was just out of range.

Owens clinches with his opponent.
Griffin has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Owens avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Owens drops down looking for an ankle pick but Griffin pulls his leg out and moves away.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Griffin.
Owens is looking to counter with head kicks.

Griffin tries for a takedown but Owens sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
As Griffin looks to move away, Owens throws a big counter combo but Griffin just gets out of the way.

A looping hook to the body misses from Griffin. Owens does a little dance to reset his feet.
Griffin just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromOwens.
Joe Griffin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Griffin is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Owens seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Owens leaves Griffin with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Owens thinks about countering with a head kick.

Owens gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Owens is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Owens has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Griffin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Owens jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Griffin walks away with a smile on his face. Owens gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Griffin dives in and grabs Owens's left leg, looking for a takedown. Owens pushes down on Griffin's head and hops out.
Nice takedown defense from Owens. No joy for Griffin on that attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rey Owens will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Owens avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Owens went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Griffin dives in and grabs Owens's left leg, looking for a takedown. Owens pushes down on Griffin's head and hops out.
Griffin shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Owens defends it nicely.
Owens throws a counter high kick but Griffin was just alert enough to avoid it.
Owens avoids the head kick by Griffin.
Owens appears to be looking for a big counter.

Owens fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Griffin, pushing him back against the cage.

Griffin is looking to get back to his feet here but Owens is keeping cool and he's managed to take Griffin's back.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Owens lands a shot to the head.
Griffin is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Owens is hanging on to Griffin's back as he tries to escape.

The referee is taking a good look at Griffin as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Owens!

I really don't envy Griffin right now.

Griffin is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Griffin is still in real trouble! Can Owens finish him?
Rey Owens overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Can Griffin hold on?! Owens is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Owens lands a good shot there. Griffin covers up! Owens smells blood and goes for the finish - the referee warns Griffin to improve his position but he's not intelligently defending himself and the referee has no choice but to step in and end the fight! Owens jumps to his feet and celebrates the important win with his cornermen!
