PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tj Eastman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Walton Kunz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kunz has chosen Dutchland Heil as his entrance music. Walton Kunz will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tj Eastman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Walton Kunz!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Winston Alpacca and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Eastman closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Kunz pushes Eastman away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Eastman gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Eastman misses with the ground and pound.
Eastman controls the position.
Eastman tries to advance to mount but Kunz instead regains half guard.
Kunz trying to control but Eastman postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Eastman looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Kunz wants to get back to his feet.
Eastman wants to pass the guard but Kunz is defending well.
Kunz tries to kick Eastman off but Eastman keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Kunz looks for a takedown but Eastman sprawls well.
Kunz misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Eastman.
Eastman could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kunz displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Eastman.
Eastman takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Eastman instigates a clinch.

Kunz lands an uppercut.
Eastman lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!


It looks like Walton Kunz has been cut.
Come on Eastman - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Eastman with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Kunz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Eastman smiles and moves away.
Eastman circles away from the clinch attempt.
Eastman is looking to counter the offense by Kunz and move into the clinch.

Kunz shoots in for a takedown but Eastman shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Tj Eastman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Walton Kunz.
Kunz swings for the body but Eastman moves out of range.
Eastman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kunz's waist but Kunz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Eastman off to one side.

and Eastman counters by clinching up.

Eastman throws a knee to the head but misses.

Eastman misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Kunz.

We've been informed that Kunz has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
The referee calls for Eastman to work.
Eastman throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Kunz blocks it with crossed arms.

Kunz is trying to force a seperation but Eastman has the dominant position.
Kunz misses with a hook to the ribs.

Kunz has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Eastman uses from the top position.

Kunz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Kunz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Eastman manages to get himself to full guard.

Kunz tries to stand but Eastman is controlling from the bottom.
Eastman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Eastman is wriggling around but Kunz manages to pass to half guard.
Eastman tries to kick Kunz off but Kunz keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Eastman trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tj Eastman will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Walton Kunz's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Eastman darts in looking for a takedown but Kunz gets double underhooks and turns Eastman into the cage.
Kunz cracks a nice hook into Eastman's ribs.

Kunz tries to close the distance and clinch but Eastman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Eastman shoots in and drives through. Kunz sprawls well.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Tj Eastman.

Eastman has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Kunz to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Eastman is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Kunz pulls down on the head and he's put Eastman to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Walton Kunz!
In his post fight interview, Walton Kunz started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
