Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Edmund Compton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Mathews (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Edmund Compton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Mathews!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Bruno Hogan and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mathews stuns Compton with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Compton keeps the fight on the outside.
Compton appears to be looking for a big counter.
Compton fails with a takedown attempt.

Mathews clinches with his opponent.
Mathews is trying to force a seperation but Compton has the dominant position.

Compton gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Mathews regains guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Compton shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mathews as he jumps to the side.
Compton darts in looking for a takedown but Mathews gets double underhooks and turns Compton into the cage.
Mathews tries to counter with a clinch but Compton shakes him off and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Edmund Compton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mathews fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Compton has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Compton has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mathews uses from the top position.

Compton's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Mathews has momentary wrist control but Compton slips an elbow through the middle.
Mathews wants to stand and escape but Compton is having none of it.

That was a close round but I would say that Edmund Compton will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

James Mathews seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

No joy there for Mathews, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Edmund Compton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Compton is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Compton is looking for a kimura but Mathews is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Compton to get the leverage.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Compton connects with a nice short shot to Mathews's temple.

Mathews has a hand on Compton's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Compton takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Compton postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mathews looks a forlorn figure.
Compton lands a big shot there that rocks Mathews but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Compton fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Compton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Mathews decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Compton, up you get!

Compton bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mathews's guard.

Compton is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Compton is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

James Mathews has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Compton seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Mathews for as long as he can get away with.

James Mathews comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Compton has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
