PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carmen Bryant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Mcgrath (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mcgrath has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! James Mcgrath has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Carmen Bryant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, James Mcgrath!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shirou Masuda and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bryant scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Mcgrath looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Mcgrath is refusing to be controlled, as Bryant sits in half guard.

Bryant seems to be working for a kimura but Mcgrath defends the submission attempt.

Bryant is looking for a kimura but Mcgrath is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Bryant to get the leverage.
Bryant thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mcgrath's head.
Bryant wants to control but Mcgrath is keeping him busy.
Bryant looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mcgrath with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bryant is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mcgrath doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Bryant.

Bryant has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Bryant decides to return to a standing position.

Mcgrath tries to keep at a distance but Bryant has taken the fight into the clinch.

Bryant pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Bryant darts in and clinches Mcgrath up against the cage.

Bryant gets control of Mcgrath's arms and successfully pulls guard. Bryant will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Mcgrath really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bryant. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bryant pulls Mcgrath in to control the position.
Bryant manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mcgrath manages to get himself to full guard.

Bryant passes Mcgrath's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Bryant stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Mcgrath to get to his feet.

Bryant closes the distance and clinches.
Bryant has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Bryant pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mcgrath avoids the head kick by Bryant.
Mcgrath is looking for the big counter here.

Bryant closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Bryant is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Mcgrath is looking for a sweep. Bryant is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Bryant is working for a submission of some sort.
Bryant throws a strike but Mcgrath avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Bryant stands up and waves to Mcgrath to follow him.
Mcgrath keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Mcgrath fails with the takedown.
Bryant went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bryant misses with a takedown attempt - Mcgrath sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Bryant postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mcgrath is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Bryant, into his guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bryant works his foot free and advances to mount.
Bryant lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Bryant goes for an armbar but Mcgrath turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Mcgrath.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bryant continues to stall.
Bryant keeping moving, preventing Mcgrath from controlling successfully.
Bryant lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The fight stays on the outside here - Bryant looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Bryant feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Bryant drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bryant jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Bryant tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Bryant is adopting a defensive guard.

Bryant has control of Mcgrath's left arm, preventing Mcgrath from doing any damage.
Bryant wants to sweep here but Mcgrath controlling him for the moment.

Mcgrath is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Carmen Bryant overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mcgrath is trying to control the position but Bryant postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bryant tries to free his leg and advance position but Mcgrath is retaining full guard.
