PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Georges StPierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Castello Rope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Georges StPierre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Castello Rope!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
StPierre misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rope throws a head kick that StPierre semi-blocks.
Rope stuffs the takedown.

StPierre shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rope's guard.
Rope trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
StPierre is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
StPierre trying to control but Rope is working from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as StPierre accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Rope is trying to keep StPierre in close.

StPierre decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
StPierre blocks a head kick by Rope.
StPierre tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rope paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Rope keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

and StPierre counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

StPierre stands up from Rope's guard - StPierre perhaps looking for a knockout.

StPierre throws a nice looking combination but Rope bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

StPierre moves into the clinch successfully.
StPierre goes for a takedown in the clinch but Rope prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Georges StPierre. That's going to take a lot out of him.
StPierre is breathing heavily.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
StPierre is looking to break free of the clinch but Rope has double underhooks.

Rope lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of StPierre backwards.
StPierre can't break the clinch.
Rope keeps control of StPierre as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
StPierre swings away with an uppercut that misses.
StPierre tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
StPierre tries to pull guard but Rope won't allow it.

StPierre has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rope is proving hard to escape from.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rope is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rope has control of StPierre's left arm, preventing StPierre from doing any damage.
Rope not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
StPierre trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Rope had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. StPierre is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Rope Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take StPierre's back instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rope tries for a takedown but StPierre circles away easily

and StPierre counters by moving into the clinch.
StPierre is stalling here.
Rope is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Rope pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rope shoots in and drives through. StPierre sprawls well.
StPierre fails with the takedown
and Rope counters with a two punch combo.
Rope misses with a takedown

and StPierre counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rope won't be happy with that.
Georges StPierre has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Castello Rope.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

StPierre moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
StPierre is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rope has escaped the position, nice work there.
StPierre working away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rope isn't going anywhere.
Rope is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

StPierre stands up and we're back to a striking position.
StPierre tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rope shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and StPierre counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Rope is looking to control StPierre's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rope avoid being mounted?
StPierre controlling the action here.
Rope trying to control but StPierre postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
StPierre is looking to take a break and control but Rope is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Rope wants to control but StPierre is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
StPierre wants to take a breather but Rope is having none of it.
StPierre thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rope's head.
StPierre wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! StPierre's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Rope gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and StPierre counters with a head kick. That will keep Rope thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Rope stuns StPierre with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

StPierre is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Georges StPierre overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

StPierre controls Rope momentarily but Rope frees himself.
Rope trying to stand up but can't free himself from StPierre's guard.

StPierre is trying to keep Rope in close.
StPierre wants to sweep but no luck.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
StPierre moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

StPierre thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
StPierre throwing sloppy strikes.
Castello Rope has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
StPierre somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
Georges StPierre is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
StPierre trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Rope doesn't escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
Castello Rope comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think StPierre has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
