PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Burner Kettel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jaq Auguste (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Burner Kettel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jaq Auguste!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Summer Carpenter and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Auguste throws a sloppy head kick
and Kettel cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Kettel tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Auguste paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Auguste tries to counter by closing the distance.
A nice leg kick lands there from Kettel.
Auguste keeps the fight on the outside.
Kettel sets himself, and Auguste steps forward looking for the clinch! Kettel avoids it this time.

Auguste gets a double leg takedown into Kettel's guard.

Auguste is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Kettel is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Kettel has escaped and now he's on top!

Kettel wants to control from the top but Auguste keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kettel tries to free his leg and advance position but Auguste is retaining full guard.
Auguste not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Auguste keeping moving, preventing Kettel from controlling successfully.
Auguste is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Kettel tries to free his leg and advance position but Auguste is retaining full guard.
Auguste is adopting a defensive guard.
Kettel throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Auguste works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Auguste looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kettel is one step ahead there.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Auguste is pulling down on Kettel's head to control his posture.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Kettel postures up in Auguste's guard and throws a big left but Auguste blocks it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kettel misses with a takedown
and Auguste counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Kettel shoots for a double leg takedown but Auguste sprawls well. He's pushed Kettel's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Auguste counters with a three punch combo that has Kettel backing up. Kettel nods at Auguste to acknowledge the strikes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Burner Kettel. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Auguste closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kettel's guard.

Auguste decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kettel, up you get!
Kettel is breathing heavily.

Auguste shoots in and drives through. Kettel sprawls well.
Kettel shoots for a takedown but Auguste saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Auguste shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Auguste was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Auguste cracks Kettel with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Auguste is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Kettel's shoulder. That is not cool.

Auguste is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kettel has escaped the position, nice work there.
Auguste wants to control but Kettel is keeping him busy.

Auguste scoring with punches from side control.
Kettel knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Auguste on the ground.
Auguste in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Kettel tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Auguste slows the pace down.
Kettel tries to bench press Auguste off him but Auguste keeps the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jaq Auguste dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Kettel with a poor takedown

and Auguste counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Auguste tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kettel smiles and moves away.
Burner Kettel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Auguste throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kettel's waist but Kettel gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Auguste off to one side.
Kettel scores with a head kick.
Kettel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Auguste swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Auguste throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kettel.
Auguste leaves Kettel with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Auguste has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Auguste shoots in looking for a takedown but Kettel manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Auguste's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Burner Kettel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jaq Auguste.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kettel.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kettel pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Auguste will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A head kick from Auguste lands but Kettel takes it in his stride.
Kettel goes for a double leg but Auguste avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Auguste continues to drive forward.
Auguste misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kettel.

Kettel stuffs the takedown attempt from Auguste. Auguste gets slowly back to his feet.

Kettel dives in for a single leg takedown but Auguste sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Kettel shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Auguste as he jumps to the side.

Auguste shoots in looking for a takedown but Kettel manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Auguste's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Kettel stuffs the takedown attempt from Auguste. Auguste gets slowly back to his feet.
Kettel tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Auguste swivels and escapes.

Auguste bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kettel tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Auguste decides to stand back up.
Auguste shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kettel sprawls well. Kettel wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Auguste gets slowly back to his feet.
Auguste throws a front kick that sends Kettel stumbling back into the cage.
Kettel shoots in looking for a takedown but Auguste manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kettel's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Auguste darts in and clinches Kettel up against the cage.

Auguste gets control of Kettel's arms and successfully pulls guard. Auguste will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Auguste controlling the position.
Auguste not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Auguste is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Auguste wants to free his trapped foot but Kettel is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Auguste is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jaq Auguste showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Kettel circles away from the clinch attempt.

Kettel gets caught napping as Auguste dives in and scores a takedown. Kettel manages to retain guard.
Auguste landing with the ground and pound.

Kettel looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Auguste is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Auguste scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Auguste won't allow Kettel to sweep him here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Auguste stands and throws Kettel's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Auguste is staying tight to Kettel's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Auguste has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Auguste shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kettel but Kettel pushes him off and we're back to square one.
It looked like Kettel was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Oooooh!!! Auguste has knocked Kettel down with a huge combo! Auguste steps away and waves a wobbly Kettel back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Kettel is rocked!
Auguste lands with a big right hook that stumbles Kettel - he's out on his feet here! Auguste follows up with another monster hook that separates Kettel from consciousness! Kettel falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Auguste stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jaq Auguste!
