Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Lunar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antero Tikkanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Lucas Lunar has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 44 - 16 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lucas Lunar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Antero Tikkanen!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Steve Montenegro and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tikkanen fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Lunar throws a leg kick

and Tikkanen counters with a nice double leg into side control. Lunar won't be happy with that.
Lunar regains half guard.
Lunar is looking for a sweep. Tikkanen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Lunar won't allow Tikkanen to pass to mount.
Tikkanen missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Tikkanen misses with a head shot. Lunar uses the momentum to regain guard.
Lunar preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lunar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Tikkanen trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Lunar has Tikkanen pulled in close to control his posture.
Tikkanen with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Tikkanen in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Tikkanen throws a strike but Lunar rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lunar sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Tikkanen's guard.
Lunar is pressing down on Tikkanen's thigh, looking to free his foot. Tikkanen is holding on for now.
Tikkanen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lunar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Tikkanen wants to sweep but Lunar has passed to side control!
Tikkanen is trying to control Lunar's posture but Lunar avoids it.

A lull in the action here as Lunar stalls from top position.
Lunar's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Tikkanen wants to control but Lunar postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Lucas Lunar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Lunar throws a leg kick

and Tikkanen counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Tikkanen thows a huge punch but Lunar dodges it nicely.
Tikkanen throws a strike but Lunar avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Lunar is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Tikkanen tries to free his leg and advance position but Lunar is retaining full guard.
Tikkanen missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tikkanen throws a strike but Lunar rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Lunar's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Tikkanen doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Antero Tikkanen will probably get the nod.
That's time! Lunar's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Lunar throws a wild body kick that Tikkanen sees coming a mile off.
Lucas Lunar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lunar lands a nice leg kick that just misses Tikkanen's sensitive parts.
Lunar lands a leg kick that knocks Tikkanen off balance momentarily.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Lunar.
Lunar dips to his left and cracks Tikkanen with an uppercut!
Lunar swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Lunar fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Tikkanen is out of range.
Tikkanen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lunar is fending him off so far but Tikkanen persists. Nope, Lunar circles away and we're back to standing.

Tikkanen closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lunar to the mat! Lunar manages to get full guard.
Lunar lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Tikkanen wants to sweep but no luck.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Tikkanen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Tikkanen keeping moving, preventing Lunar from controlling successfully.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Tikkanen holds on and takes a little breather.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Lunar pushes Tikkanen back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.


It looks like Antero Tikkanen has been cut.

Lunar pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Lunar connects with a leg kick. Tikkanen looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Lunar goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Lunar chopping away at his opponent's legs.
A slapping leg kick lands for Lunar.
Tikkanen shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lunar as he jumps to the side.
Lucas Lunar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antero Tikkanen.

Lunar buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Lunar is looking to chop away at Tikkanen's legs.
Tikkanen walks into a left hand.
Lunar throws a head kick that half lands.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Tikkanen slips under a jab from Lunar.
A little jabbing left from Tikkanen on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Tikkanen on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Tikkanen moves out of range of the body kick.
A left lands for Lunar.
Tikkanen shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lunar defends it nicely.

and Tikkanen counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Lunar makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lunar.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lunar is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Lunar utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Antero Tikkanen's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Tikkanen on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Lunar has closed the distance and engaged Tikkanen in a clinch.
Tikkanen is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Lunar pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Tikkanen has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Lunar is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Lunar pushes Tikkanen back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Nice body punch from Lunar - that landed with a thud.
Lunar gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Tikkanen.
Lucas Lunar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antero Tikkanen.
Lunar lands a nice shot to the body.
Tikkanen is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Tikkanen wants to take the fight to the mat but Lunar manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Tikkanen's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
A jab from Lunar does it's job there.

Lunar fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tikkanen manages to avoid it.
Tikkanen tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

A head kick lands from Lunar that sends Tikkanen to the canvas. Tikkanen tries to scramble back to his feet but Lunar brings him back down into side control.
Tikkanen has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Lunar trying to control the action but Tikkanen is working from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Tikkanen can do anything to dispel that myth.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Tikkanen prevents Lunar from improving position.
Tikkanen tries to control but Lunar manages to take his back.
Lunar is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tikkanen can do to turn this around?
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Lunar controlling the position well here. Tikkanen rolled but Lunar kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

Lunar has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Tikkanen's body.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Lunar is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Tikkanen is defending well though. Lunar let's go of the attempt for now.

Lucas Lunar showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Lunar has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Lucas Lunar decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
