PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hai Robbins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luca Spinelli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Luca Spinelli was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hai Robbins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Luca Spinelli!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Patrick Alders and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Spinelli gets a takedown into half guard.

Robbins actively working from the bottom here.
Robbins is refusing to be controlled, as Spinelli sits in half guard.
Spinelli is looking to pass Robbins's guard but actually Robbins recovers to full guard.
Spinelli trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Robbins working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Spinelli.

Robbins looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Spinelli wants to control from the top but Robbins keeps moving.
Robbins is trying to keep Spinelli in close.
Spinelli chips away with some ground and pound.
Robbins is striking but Spinelli is not phased and passes to half guard.
Spinelli takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Spinelli throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Robbins is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Spinelli trying to control from half guard but Robbins is working away.

Spinelli is working for a kimura but Robbins is defending it quite comfortably.
Robbins is looking to control Spinelli's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Robbins avoid being mounted?

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Spinelli scores with a takedown into Robbins's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Robbins working for a triangle but Spinelli defends it easily.
Spinelli wants to control from the top but Robbins keeps moving.

Robbins has his foot on Spinelli's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Spinelli works his way back into a safe position though.

Spinelli would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Robbins seems keen to control Spinelli's posture.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Spinelli is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Robbins's half guard.

Robbins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Luca Spinelli seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Robbins looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Hai Robbins is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Spinelli closes the distance and clinches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Spinelli keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Robbins's efforts to push away.

Robbins pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Spinelli is just content to waste time from the top position. Robbins takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Robbins is working an open guard so Spinelli takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Spinelli shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Spinelli drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Robbins manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Spinelli has Robbins in his guard.


Robbins decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Spinelli, up you get!
Robbins is looking to clinch.
Spinelli raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Robbins.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Spinelli wants to control from the top but Robbins keeps moving.
Robbins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Spinelli accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Robbins throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Spinelli is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Robbins is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Robbins has escaped and now he's on top!


Spinelli is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Spinelli is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Robbins distracts Spinelli with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luca Spinelli showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Robbins's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Spinelli misses with a left hand
and Robbins counters with a two punch combo.
Spinelli throws a chopping leg kick but Robbins manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Robbins throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Spinelli's waist but Spinelli gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Robbins off to one side.

Spinelli drives through and clinches with Robbins against the cage.
Spinelli has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Robbins pushes Spinelli back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Spinelli ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Spinelli no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Robbins decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Spinelli darts in and clinches Robbins up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Spinelli gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Robbins regains guard.

Robbins keeping moving, preventing Spinelli from controlling successfully.
Spinelli with a flurry of punches that miss.
Spinelli trying to control but Robbins is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Robbins seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Spinelli loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Spinelli seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Robbins is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Spinelli defends well.

Robbins had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Spinelli defends it easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Spinelli engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Robbins controls Spinelli momentarily but Spinelli frees himself.

Robbins working for a triangle but Spinelli defends it easily.
Robbins thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Spinelli working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Spinelli shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Robbins's guard.
Robbins wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Spinelli wants to control from the top but Robbins keeps moving.

Spinelli gets to his feet. Robbins looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Hai Robbins has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Luca Spinelli is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Spinelli throws a head kick but Robbins moves out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
Luca Spinelli comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Spinelli has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
