Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Salvador Serrano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ryan Mason has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Salvador Serrano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ryan Mason!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Luis Engracia and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Serrano shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mason sprawls well. Mason wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Serrano gets slowly back to his feet.

Serrano has Mason up against the cage in a clinch.

Serrano pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Serrano tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Mason shoots in and bounces Serrano off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Serrano controls Mason momentarily but Mason frees himself.
Mason trying to control the position from guard on top but Serrano is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Serrano has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Serrano knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mason on the ground.

Serrano tries to land a sweep but no joy.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Serrano trying to strike off his back.
Mason being controlled here momentarily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Serrano avoids a punch combination nicely.
Serrano tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Mason wants to counter the offense by Serrano and move into the clinch position.
Serrano tries to clinch up but Mason circles away and keeps his distance.

Mason fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Serrano, pushing him back against the cage.

Mason manages to pull guard.
Serrano working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Mason keeping moving, preventing Serrano from controlling successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mason is trying to keep Serrano in close.
Serrano throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Mason is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Serrano stands and steps away. Mason gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Serrano tries to clinch but Mason is having none of it.
Serrano takes a jab right on the kisser.
Mason fails to land the takedown.

Mason tries to keep at a distance but Serrano has taken the fight into the clinch.
Serrano could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Serrano tries to pull guard but Mason forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mason is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Serrano gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Mason drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Mason dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Mason gets tackled into the cage by Serrano. Serrano maintains the clinch.
Serrano stops a takedown attempt from Mason.
Serrano is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Mason ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mason no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Serrano trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Serrano looking to sit in guard and control but Mason gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mason has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Serrano working a defensive guard but Mason manages to pass into side control anyway.

The ground and pound from Mason seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Mason wants to lay and pray for a moment but Serrano keeps working.

Mason working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Mason looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mason wants to control for a moment but Serrano uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Ryan Mason has got the better of the ground game so far.
Serrano controlling the position for now.
Mason not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Mason stalling away here and it's allowed Serrano to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Serrano tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Mason throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Serrano works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Mason trying to control but Serrano is working from the bottom.
Mason sitting in guard here, content to control.
Serrano controls Mason momentarily but Mason frees himself.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Mason drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mason in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Serrano preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Mason slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Mason stands up and waves to Serrano to follow him.
Serrano misses with a series of wild punches.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mason moves into the clinch successfully.

Mason is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Serrano can't fight it off and eventually Mason manages to take the fight to the floor. Serrano looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryan Mason showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Mason closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Serrano quickly recovers to half guard.
Serrano wants to stand back up but Mason manages to pass into side control.
Serrano tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Mason presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
The referee warns Serrano that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mason throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Serrano because Mason loaded up on that one.

Serrano is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mason can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Serrano is looking to escape.
Mason lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Serrano is squirming around, avoiding Mason's attempts to control the action.
Serrano can't escape the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mason with shots to the head and body - Serrano looks very uncomfortable down there.


It looks like Salvador Serrano has been cut.
Mason trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Serrano is working to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mason swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Serrano is now in Mason's guard. A big mistake from Mason there, giving up the dominant position!
Mason is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Mason bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Serrano's guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mason stands up from Serrano's guard - Mason perhaps looking for a knockout.
Salvador Serrano has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ryan Mason is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Ryan Mason seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mason connects with a high kick.


Serrano is rocked!

Ryan Mason comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Mason winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A determined Ryan Mason didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
