PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alvaro Hendrix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyrus Rex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alvaro Hendrix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tyrus Rex!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Jeff Smith and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hendrix throws a head kick that misses.
Rex let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Rex keeps the fight on the outside.
Rex doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.

Hendrix fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rex, pushing him back against the cage.

Hendrix ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hendrix no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Hendrix has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rex can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Rex stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hendrix swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hendrix has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rex can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hendrix had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rex defends it easily.
Rex in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Rex working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hendrix's head.

Rex wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hendrix keeps working.

Rex thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Rex looks up at the clock and then as Hendrix takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Rex smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Hendrix is trying to get back to half guard.

Rex is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hendrix has escaped the position, nice work there.
Hendrix is trying to control Rex's posture but Rex avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hendrix wants to get back to his feet.

Hendrix regains half guard.

Rex wants to work for an arm triangle but Hendrix is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Hendrix kicks off Rex and gets to his feet.
Hendrix tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rex paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hendrix tries to clinch but Rex moves out of range.
Hendrix sets himself, and Rex steps forward looking for the clinch! Hendrix avoids it this time.

Rex wants to counter the offense by Hendrix and move into the clinch position.
Hendrix really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hendrix rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rex moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Rex closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hendrix's guard.
Hendrix is breathing heavily.
Hendrix is trying to keep Rex in close.
Rex stays in close to Hendrix's body and controls the position.
Rex pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hendrix is keeping the position for now.
Rex postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Rex must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hendrix is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

A close round but Tyrus Rex will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Rex ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hendrix moves away.
It looked like Hendrix was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Rex avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Rex is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Hendrix is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rex is aware though and is defending well.

Rex closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Rex seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Hendrix flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Rex winds up and cracks Hendrix with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Hendrix is not content to let Rex control the position.
Hendrix is trying to control but can't.
Rex looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Rex in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Hendrix tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Rex!
