Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joe Bone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Calvin King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bone comes to the cage accompanied by You'll Never Walk Alone. King has chosen ROAR by Katy Perry as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Bone!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Calvin King!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King loads up on a big right hand but Bone slips the punch.
King sizes up Bone with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Bone dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Bone clobbers King with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Bone misses with a jab, cross combination.
King connects with a leg kick. Bone looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
King bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
King has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Danga de danga de dang - King scores with a four punch combination!
This has been an exciting period of action!

King gets caught flat footed, as Bone shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Bone thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Bone trying to control the position from guard on top but King is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bone throws a big elbow that misses.
King can't keep his opponent in guard - Bone advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
King is not content to let Bone control the position.

Bone is looking for a kimura but King is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Bone to get the leverage.
King really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bone. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Bone is working for a kimura but King is defending it quite comfortably.
King is looking for a sweep. Bone is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Bone is working for a submission of some sort.
King felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Calvin King seems to be getting the better of the standup.
King wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Bone darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

King throws a chopping leg kick but Bone manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Good leg kick by King there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

King tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bone was well out of range. Poor timing from King.
The fighters circling - Bone throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Joe Bone seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King throws a quick inside leg kick.
Bone on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by King. King obviously looking to wear him down.

Bone throws a combination but it was largely blocked by King.

Bone closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

King explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Nice uppercut lands for King. That snapped Bone's head back.
Bone blocks the body kick.
King bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Bone's head backwards.
King lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Bone throws a right and a left that both miss.
King swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Bone.
Bone walks forward, straight into a front kick from King.
King lands with a straight right. Bone didn't see that one coming.
Bone is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bone's hands are dropping dangerously low here and King connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Bone scrambles back to his feet.
King swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Bone.
Bone misses with a two punch combination.
King has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

I was talking to Bone's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Bone has a couple of punches blocked by King.
Bone goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
King blocks a punch to the side of the head.
King lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Bone can't find room to land a body shot as King controls the action.
King misses with a short punch on the inside.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
King swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Bone swings wildly with an uppercut but King uses good head movement to avoid it.
King blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Calvin King showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

King throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and King cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
King throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Bone throws a series of punches but King moves out of range.

The fight stays on the outside here - Bone looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Bone throws the left hand but King avoids the punch easily.
Bone walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
King throws a big shot that misses.
King tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bone drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but King manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Bone has King in his guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

A close third round but Calvin King just about did enough to take it.
That's time! Bone's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Bone feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Kings jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Bone is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

King replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Bone blocks it well.

King gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Bone to score an easy takedown into full guard.

King wants to sweep but no luck.
King seems keen to control Bone's posture.

Bone drops back looking for a leg! King is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and King manages to kick Bone off! Bone jumps back into King's guard.

King is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Bone postures up in King's guard and throws a big left but King blocks it.

Bone drops back, looking for a kneebar! King looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. King looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from King!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

That was a close fourth round but I would say that Joe Bone will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Bone looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

I think King has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In his post fight interview, Calvin King started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
