PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eli Bryant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nathan Diablo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diablo comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Insane in the brain kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Nathan Diablo is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nathan Diablo!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Paul Gruel.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bryant gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Bryant keeps the fight on the outside.
Diablo throws a hook to the side of Bryant's head but Bryant sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Diablo tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bryant was well out of range. Poor timing from Diablo.
Bryant drops down looking for a counter takedown but Diablo sprawls and moves away.
Nathan Diablo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bryant takes the fight into the clinch.
Diablo being controlled against the cage.
Diablo has a couple of punches blocked by Bryant.

Bryant wants the takedown. Diablo is fighting it off but Bryant persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Diablo's guard against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diablo doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Diablo is looking for a triangle here but Bryant uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Diablo is looking for a sweep.

Bryant lands a nice forearm strike.
Diablo is trying to get back to half guard.
Bryant controls the position from side control.
Diablo tries to bench press Bryant off him but Bryant keeps the position.
Diablo manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Bryant is not content to let Diablo control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Diablo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bryant does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Diablo blocks the strikes from Bryant.
Diablo scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Diablo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Bryant is looking to escape.

Diablo is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Diablo throwing shots but Bryant is blocking nicely.
Bryant is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Bryant's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Diablo not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Bryant wants to control but Diablo is keeping busy.

Diablo seems to be working for a kimura but Bryant defends the submission attempt.
Diablo drops an elbow to the side of Bryant's head.

Bryant avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Diablo.
Diablo looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bryant with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Diablo landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Oh Bryant is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Bryant is looking to control Diablo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bryant avoid being mounted?
Diablo lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Bryant quite badly. Bryant pulls Diablo in close trying to recover. Diablo postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Bryant on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Bryant doesn't seem to be complaining too much.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Nathan Diablo!
