PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jordan Kirkland (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jakob Frye (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jordan Kirkland!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jakob Frye!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Frye shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Frye is trying to control the action in half guard but Kirkland is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Frye working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Kirkland's thigh. Kirkland counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Kirkland keeping moving, preventing Frye from controlling successfully.
Frye lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kirkland looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Kirkland's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Frye is standing up over Kirkland. Kirkland looks to escape but Frye dives into side control.
Frye misses with the ground and pound.
Frye trying to control the action but Kirkland is working from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kirkland manages to work his way to half guard, despite Frye's best efforts.
Kirkland is trying to stand up here but Frye is controlling him well.
Still in half guard, Frye seems content to control.
Frye trying to control from Kirkland's half guard. Kirkland has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Frye pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kirkland is keeping the position for now.
Frye wants to control from the top but Kirkland keeps moving.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Kirkland looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Kirkland lands a right hand that snaps the head of Frye backwards.

Frye jumps guard and drags Kirkland to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Kirkland not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kirkland trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Kirkland throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Frye works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

A close round but Jakob Frye will probably get the nod.
That's time! Kirkland's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Frye throws a lazy head kick

and Kirkland counters with a single leg into guard. Frye didn't expect that.

Frye has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Kirkland has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Frye breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Frye decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kirkland is not content to let Frye control the position.
Kirkland is trying to maintain the position but Frye is very close to passing his half guard.

Frye loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Frye must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Frye stands up from Kirkland's guard - Frye perhaps looking for a knockout.

Frye fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kirkland to the ground. Frye is now in Kirkland's guard.
Frye is breathing heavily.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kirkland is on top in guard.

Kirkland is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Frye wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Kirkland is now in half guard.

Kirkland thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Frye's head.
Kirkland working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kirkland looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Kirkland lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Frye tries to get to full guard but Kirkland has control of the leg.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Jakob Frye is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Frye closes the distance and clinches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jakob Frye will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Kirkland wants to slow Frye down by chopping away at his legs.
Frye throws a push kick but Kirkland slaps the foot to one side.
As Frye tries to get set, Kirkland tries to push him back and clinch up but Frye manages to avoid the attempt.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kirkland controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Frye has momentary wrist control but Kirkland slips an elbow through the middle.
Kirkland is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Kirkland is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Frye throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Frye wants to stand and escape but Kirkland is having none of it.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Frye shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kirkland is trying to defend but Frye finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Frye takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Frye throws a nice looking combination but Kirkland bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Frye takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Frye misses with a wild combination.
Frye misses with a few strikes there.

Frye drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kirkland is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Frye off and has taken his back!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Can Frye hold on?! Kirkland is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Kirkland is riding his opponent, not letting Frye buck him off.
Frye is really stuck here.
Kirkland has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Frye's body.
Jordan Kirkland has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jakob Frye is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
