PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Enzo Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ned Nedeltsev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Enzo Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ned Nedeltsev!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Hirohito Nitta and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nedeltsev moves into range and clinches up with Gracie.
Gracie tries to score a body lock takedown but Nedeltsev shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Gracie wants to take the fight to the mat but Nedeltsev manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Gracie is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Nedeltsev can't fight it off and eventually Gracie manages to take the fight to the floor. Nedeltsev looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Nedeltsev is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gracie defends well.

Gracie drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Nedeltsev manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gracie has Nedeltsev in his guard.


Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Nedeltsev passes into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie tries to roll over but Nedeltsev keeps him under control.
Nedeltsev sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Let's hope that Nedeltsev has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Nedeltsev is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Gracie has managed to free his arm - good work.

Gracie actively working from the bottom here.
Nedeltsev controlling the pace.
Gracie is trying to get back to full guard.

Nedeltsev lands a couple of elbows.
Nedeltsev slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Gracie working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Nedeltsev has passed into half guard!

Gracie looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Nedeltsev wants to get up but he can't break Gracie's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Nedeltsev closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Gracie did well to prevent Nedeltsev getting side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Gracie misses with a takedown attempt - Nedeltsev sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Gracie enables Nedeltsev to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Gracie manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Ned Nedeltsev has got the better of the ground game so far.

Gracie takes a kick to the side of the head.


It looks like Enzo Gracie has been cut.
Nice takedown defense from Nedeltsev. No joy for Gracie on that attempt.

Nedeltsev bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Nedeltsev decides to stand up, so the ref orders Gracie to his feet.
Ned Nedeltsev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nedeltsev lands with a kick to the temple. Gracie shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Nedeltsev throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gracie.

Nedeltsev instigates a clinch.

Nedeltsev breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Nedeltsev has taken the fight to the clinch.

Nedeltsev escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gracie looks for a takedown but Nedeltsev sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Enzo Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nedeltsev drives through with a takedown into guard.

Gracie is looking for a triangle here but Nedeltsev uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Nedeltsev just content to control the position.

Nedeltsev decides to stand back up. Nedeltsev steps back and let's Gracie get back to his feet.

Nedeltsev darts in and clinches Gracie up against the cage.

Gracie wants a takedown.

Nedeltsev escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Nedeltsev throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Nedeltsev shoots in and gets a takedown into Gracie's guard.
Nedeltsev is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Nedeltsev is continuing to stall.

Gracie has his foot on Nedeltsev's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nedeltsev works his way back into a safe position though.

Nedeltsev passes into half guard.
Nedeltsev moves nicely into side control.
Nedeltsev in side control lands a decent elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nedeltsev is putting a hurting on Gracie here, landing some big shots from side control.

Nedeltsev wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gracie, who protects the arm well.

Nedeltsev stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ned Nedeltsev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Enzo Gracie's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Nedeltsev lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Nedeltsev is controlling the pace.
Nedeltsev lands with a punch from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Nedeltsev is working for a kimura but Gracie is defending it quite comfortably.
Nedeltsev sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Nedeltsev works his foot free and advances to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nedeltsev wants to control the pace but Gracie is squirming around nicely.
Nedeltsev controlling the pace for now.
Gracie manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Nedeltsev content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Gracie makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gracie.

Gracie is working an open guard so Nedeltsev takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ned Nedeltsev comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Nedeltsev has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
