PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Philipnchen Mueller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tomasz Rzasa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tomasz Rzasa will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Philipnchen Mueller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tomasz Rzasa!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Anni Minnemäki and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mueller fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rzasa sprawls well initially but Mueller persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Mueller is keen to just control but Rzasa is a slippery customer.

Mueller looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Rzasa avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Mueller.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mueller looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Rzasa is trying is best to control the position here.
Rzasa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rzasa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mueller. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mueller wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rzasa keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mueller tries to stand but can't do so whilst Rzasa controls his leg.

Rzasa looking for submissions off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mueller changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rzasa tries to avoid it but Mueller manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rzasa to the ground. Rzasa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Rzasa takes the fight into the clinch.
Rzasa goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Rzasa is trying to trip Mueller. He has hold of a leg but Mueller is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Rzasa persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Mueller might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Mueller controls Rzasa momentarily but Rzasa frees himself.
Rzasa forces his way into half guard.

Rzasa slips a nice elbow through Mueller's hands, connecting with Mueller's forehead.
Rzasa looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rzasa content to control rather than advance.
Rzasa is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Rzasa stays in close to Mueller's body and controls the position.
Rzasa passes Mueller's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Rzasa controlling the pace.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rzasa is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Rzasa perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Mueller tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Mueller is trying to control but can't.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Rzasa has Mueller up against the cage in a clinch.

Rzasa pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mueller drops his hands momentarily and Rzasa takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Tomasz Rzasa is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Mueller throws a right and a left that Rzasa avoids nicely.

Rzasa moves into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tomasz Rzasa dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Rzasa has managed to clinch.
Rzasa tries to work over Mueller's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Rzasa has Mueller pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Mueller manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Mueller is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Rzasa is defending well for now.
Mueller is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Rzasa to keep the fight standing.

Rzasa lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Mueller scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Rzasa manages to mount him!

Rzasa controlling the position easily from mount.

Rzasa jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Mueller is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Mueller and Rzasa has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Rzasa is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mueller has escaped the position, nice work there.
Rzasa laying and praying for a moment but Mueller takes advantage and regains half guard.

Mueller tries to roll over but Rzasa keeps him under control.

Mueller pushes Rzasa off looking to stand but Rzasa dives back in and keeps control.

Mueller is looking for a sweep. Rzasa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Mueller manages to get to full guard.
Rzasa wants to stand but Mueller has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Rzasa tries to free his leg and advance position but Mueller is retaining full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Rzasa darts in and clinches Mueller up against the cage.
Rzasa tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mueller smiles and moves away.
Mueller slips a jab from Rzasa.

Rzasa drives through and clinches with Mueller against the cage.
Mueller can't break the clinch.
Mueller is pressed up against the cage. Rzasa has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mueller down to the mat. Mueller avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Philipnchen Mueller has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tomasz Rzasa.

Mueller is looking to break free of the clinch but Rzasa has double underhooks.

The referee is keeping an eye on Rzasa - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Mueller has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Rzasa uses from the top position.

Tomasz Rzasa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Rzasa gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mueller to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Mueller stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rzasa swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mueller stays in close to Rzasa's body and controls the position.

Tomasz Rzasa has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rzasa is looking to control Mueller's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rzasa avoid being mounted?

Mueller lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Mueller seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rzasa does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Rzasa is controlling Mueller's position as best he can from this difficult position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Rzasa is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Rzasa fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mueller, pushing him back against the cage.

Rzasa is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mueller pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Mueller tries to score a body lock takedown but Rzasa shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Mueller manages to break the clinch.
Rzasa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mueller moves away.

Rzasa lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Mueller sprawling to the canvas. Rzasa follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Mueller hang on?


It looks like Philipnchen Mueller has been cut.
Rzasa has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mueller makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mueller.

Mueller is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Mueller lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Mueller stands up from Rzasa's guard - Mueller perhaps looking for a knockout.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Rzasa has taken the fight to the clinch.
Mueller can't get the takedown.

Rzasa has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mueller regains guard immediately.
Rzasa is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Mueller trying to keep a closed guard but Rzasa is proving a slippery customer.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rzasa postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tomasz Rzasa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rzasa has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
