The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

MALALA gets the takedown into side control.
MALALA remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

MALALA has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

MALALA fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Guti, pushing him back against the cage.
Guti wants to break free but MALALA has control.
MALALA goes for a takedown attempt but Guti pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

MALALA shoots in looking for a takedown. Guti tries to sprawl out of it but MALALA keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Guti manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Guti drops back looking for a leg! MALALA is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and MALALA manages to kick Guti off! Guti jumps back into MALALA's guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
MALALA shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Guti but Guti pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

MALALA has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Guti is working away from the top position though.
MALALA is looking to improve his position.

Guti is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. MALALA doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Guti.

Guti looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

MALALA closes the distance and clinches.

Guti fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. MALALA sprawls well initially but Guti persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Guti throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around MALALA's waist but MALALA gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Guti off to one side.

MALALA is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Guti is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. MALALA is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. MALALA flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Guti anticipates the leg and manages to get behind MALALA and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Guti slips an arm under MALALA chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Guti has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Guti is squeezing on MALALA like an anaconda would it's prey. MALALA fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
