PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Christian Battle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Brody (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brody has chosen my name is mud as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Christian Battle has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Christian Battle seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Christian Battle!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Bob Brody!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Ackerman and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Battle looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Battle misses with a two punch combination.
Battle misses with a wild combination.
Brody has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Battle is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Brody dives in and scores a takedown into Battle's guard.

Battle kicks Brody off and gets to his feet.
Battle scores to the head and body with a nice combination!


It looks like Bob Brody has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Battle takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Brody closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Battle to the mat! Battle manages to get full guard.

Battle manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Battle lands a jab-cross combination.
Battle dives in and grabs Brody's left leg, looking for a takedown. Brody pushes down on Battle's head and hops out.
Battle is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Battle takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Battle tries to sprawl but Brody drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Battle might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Brody is looking for a kimura here.

Battle is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Brody pulls his head out easily.
Battle is breathing heavily.

Brody is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Battle's coaches at English Top Team - THE Hybrid Gym (11 ELITE ) have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Battle wants to get back to his feet.
Battle is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Brody scores with a couple of nice shots.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Brody is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Battle doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Brody.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Brody wants to work for an arm triangle but Battle is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Brody looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Battle is looking to escape.

Brody is looking for a kimura but Battle is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Brody to get the leverage.
Brody stops Battle from getting back to his feet.

Battle looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Brody content to control rather than advance.

Battle manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Brody gets the takedown into side control.
Battle manages to work his way to half guard, despite Brody's best efforts.
Brody is trying to control the action in half guard but Battle is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Brody is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Battle still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Battle has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Brody trying to control but Battle flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

Battle is persistently looking for the submission but Brody is defending it well.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Brody turns into Battle and is now in his guard.

Battle is looking for a triangle but Brody pushes his legs off easily.
Brody is working Battle over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Brody engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Brody is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Battle looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Brody works over Battle with some ground and pound from guard.

Battle escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Brody gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Battle gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Battle looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Brody looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Brody forces his way into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brody wants to pass to mount but Battle is defending the position.

Battle actively working from the bottom here.

Brody is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Battle is just riding it out for now. Brody eventually gives up the hold.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Battle is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Brody advances position into side control!
Brody wants to lay and pray for a moment but Battle keeps working.

Brody working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Brody advances nicely into full mount.

Battle wants to get back to his feet.

Brody looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Brody has hold of Battle's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Battle manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Battle is trying desperately to improve position.

Brody is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Brody extends the arm and Battle is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Bob Brody!

Bob Brody tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
