PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Matt Castaneda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lucien Simoneau (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Simoneau is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Dérangeant - Groovy Aardvark. Lucien Simoneau is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Castaneda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lucien Simoneau!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Castaneda shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Simoneau napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Castaneda really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Castaneda changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Simoneau looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Simoneau can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Castaneda is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Simoneau is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Simoneau really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Castaneda. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Castaneda will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Castaneda has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Simoneau is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Castaneda.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Castaneda manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Castaneda is pulling down on Simoneau's head. It's preventing any offense from Simoneau, at least for the moment.

Simoneau drops back looking for a leg! Castaneda is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Castaneda manages to kick Simoneau off! Simoneau jumps back into Castaneda's guard.

Lucien Simoneau showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Castaneda fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Simoneau sprawls well initially but Castaneda persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Simoneau can do anything to dispel that myth.

Simoneau stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Castaneda swivels though and keeps the full guard.
