PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Barney Funk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matheus Dutra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dutra comes into a darkened arena with his song building. new pespective kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Funk tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dutra swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Dutra pushes Funk up against the cage in a clinch.

Dutra has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Funk clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
I really don't envy Funk right now.
Funk trying to control the hands but Dutra breaks the grip.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Funk is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Dutra trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Dutra is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Dutra is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

No joy there for Funk, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Funk fails to land with a series of punches.

Dutra closes the distance and clinches.

Dutra has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Funk regains guard immediately.

Funk is looking for a triangle but Dutra pushes his legs off easily.

Dutra drops back looking for a leg! Funk is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Funk manages to kick Dutra off! Dutra jumps back into Funk's guard.

Funk has momentary wrist control but Dutra slips an elbow through the middle.

Funk has his foot on Dutra's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dutra works his way back into a safe position though.

Dutra decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Funk throws a nice looking combination but Dutra bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Funk gets caught flat footed, as Dutra shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Funk throws a right and a left that both miss.
Funk fails to land with a series of punches.

Dutra has closed the distance and engaged Funk in a clinch.

Dutra has picked Funk up - he's going for a ride! Dutra dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Dutra is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Funk knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Funk is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Dutra slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Funk throws a leg kick but Dutra sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Dutra gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Dutra blocks an elbow strike from Funk.
Dutra lands a nice shot to the body.
Dutra works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Funk wants to break the clinch but can't.

Dutra is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Dutra is looking for a triangle but Funk pushes his legs off easily.
Funk postures up.
Dutra wants to sweep but no luck.

Funk thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Dutra has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Funk can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Dutra scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Dutra throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Funk's waist but Funk gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dutra off to one side.
A punch lands to the side of Dutra 's head but he takes it in his stride.

and Dutra counters with a nice kick to the body.
Funk shoots in looking for a takedown. Dutra tries to sprawl out of it but Funk keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dutra manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Dutra drops down looking for an ankle pick but Funk pulls his leg out and moves away.
Barney Funk has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matheus Dutra.

Matheus Dutra showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Funk tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Funk throws a right and a left that Dutra avoids nicely.
Funk works over Dutra's head and body with a nice combination.

Dutra closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Dutra wants to control for a moment but Funk uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Funk is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Dutra doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Funk.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dutra slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Funk passes Dutra's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Funk stalling away here and it's allowed Dutra to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Funk tries to free his leg and advance position but Dutra is retaining full guard.
Dutra throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Dutra has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Funk is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Dutra.

Dutra manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Matheus Dutra seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Funk throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

and Funk counters with a three punch combo that has Dutra backing up. Dutra nods at Funk to acknowledge the strikes.
Horrible takedown by Funk or perhaps it was just good defense by Dutra which made him look bad.

Funk wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Dutra drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Dutra gets control of Funk's arms and successfully pulls guard. Dutra will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Dutra manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Funk manages to get himself to full guard.

Dutra avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
