The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Angeles lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Rodri moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Rodri turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Rodri manages to end up in side control.

Angeles wants to control from the top but Rodri keeps moving.
Angeles might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rodri haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Rodri lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Rodri slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rodri decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Lez Angeles is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Angeles ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Rodri tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

and Rodri counters with a nice double leg into side control. Angeles won't be happy with that.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Angeles is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Rodri is controlling him well.

Angeles tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Rodri presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Rodri lands a couple of good shots and Angeles has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jose Rodri will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Rodri throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Angeles tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Rodri is in Angeles's guard.
Angeles wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Rodri manages to pass to side control.

Rodri wants to free his trapped foot but Angeles is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Angeles is trying to control but can't.
Rodri winds up and cracks Angeles with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

It looks like Lez Angeles has been cut.

Angeles is looking to get back to full guard here but Rodri has managed to pass to side control instead.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rodri decides to stand up, so the ref orders Angeles to his feet.
Lez Angeles seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Angeles really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rodri. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
