Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Edvin Rinne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Santiago Palmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Palmer has chosen GSP - Not Impressed as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of New York, Edvin Rinne!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 8 - 1, fighting out of New York, Santiago Palmer!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Joseph Jones and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rinne throws out a loose jab but Palmer uses good head movement to avoid it.
Palmer connects with a crisp jab.
Rinne throws a lazy right hand but Palmer sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Palmer rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Rinne makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Rinne slips a jab from Palmer.
Rinne displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Palmer throws out the jab.

The fighters circle momentarily. Palmer darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Palmer has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Rinne misses with a few strikes there.

Palmer throws a body punch but Rinne moves out of range.
Palmer thows a left - swing and a miss!
Palmer feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Rinnes jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Nice uppercut lands for Palmer. That snapped Rinne's head back.
Rinne bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Rinne connects with a high kick.
Palmer moves away from the strike by Rinne.
Palmer takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Palmer throws a shot from downtown. Rinne moves away and avoids it.
Rinne throws a big shot that misses.
Rinne falls off balance throwing a combination
and Palmer counters with a nice uppercut.
Rinne slips a jab from Palmer.
Palmer throws a jab but it's blocked by Rinne.
Rinne throws a counter high kick but Palmer was just alert enough to avoid it.

Palmer moves into the clinch.
Rinne works on Palmer's body with a couple of short punches.

Rinne lands a hook that snaps the head of Palmer backwards.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Rinne is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
A bit of stalling here from Palmer.

Rinne blocks a punch to the side of the head.
I was talking to Rinne's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Palmer thows a left - swing and a miss!
Palmer is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rinne.
Santiago Palmer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A slow jab from Palmer misses its intended target.
Rinne tries a head kick but it misses.
Rinne shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Palmer as he jumps to the side.
Palmer tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rinne swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Rinne fails to land with a series of punches.
Rinne swats away the attempt to clinch by Palmer.
Rinne lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Rinne's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Palmer connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Rinne scrambles back to his feet.
Rinne comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Palmer has his takedown stuffed
and Rinne counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Palmer throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Rinne on the side of the head.

Rinne looks to throw the jab but Palmer is out of range.
Rinne slips a straight right by Palmer.
Rinne is looking to counter punch.

Palmer fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Palmer wants to clinch.
Rinne moves away from the strike by Palmer.

and Rinne counters with a straight right hand.
Palmer wants to clinch up but Rinne keeps it at a distance.

and Palmer counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Rinne goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Palmer throws a big shot that misses.
Palmer throws a jab when Rinne was well out of range.
Rinne throws a counter high kick but Palmer was just alert enough to avoid it.

Palmer lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Rinne steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Palmer.
Rinne swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Rinne scores with a crisp jab that stopped Palmer in his tracks.
Rinne misses with an uppercut. Palmer saw that one coming.
Palmer is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Rinne had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Rinne is looking to counter punch.
A cross from Palmer lands.
Palmer throws out a powerful jab.
Rinne is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Palmer misses with a straight left.
Rinne tries to clinch there but Palmer circles away.

letting Rinne counter with a right hand.
Palmer swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Santiago Palmer will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Rinne regains full guard. Nicely done.

Palmer's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rinne manages to get to full guard.
Rinne utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Palmer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rinne swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rinne lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Rinne wants to pass the guard but Palmer is keeping the position.
Rinne wants to control from the top but Palmer keeps moving.
Palmer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rinne's guard.

Palmer is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Rinne is looking to sweep but instead, Palmer has passed into half guard.

Santiago Palmer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Rinne has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Palmer is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Rinne crunches a lovely knee into Palmer's ribcage.
Rinne wants to take the fight to the mat but Palmer manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Palmer misses with the head strike.
Rinne has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Palmer avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Edvin Rinne. That's going to take a lot out of him.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Palmer creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Rinne lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Palmer drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Rinne gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Rinne has his foot on Palmer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Palmer works his way back into a safe position though.

Palmer has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rinne is working away from the top position though.
Palmer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Rinne is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Palmer doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Rinne.
Palmer tries to roll over but Rinne keeps him under control.
Edvin Rinne has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Palmer wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rinne throwing shots but Palmer is blocking nicely.
Palmer moves into full guard.
Palmer seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Edvin Rinne.
Well Palmer has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
