PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sandor Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Asko Ilmarinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sandor Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Asko Ilmarinen!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva misses with a series of wild punches.
We've been hearing reports that Silva has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Silva is breathing heavily.
Ilmarinen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Silva but Silva pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Ilmarinen defending well as Silva loads up on a big left hand.
Silva swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Ilmarinen is looking for the big counter here.
Sandor Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ilmarinen shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Silva defends it nicely.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Silva enables Ilmarinen to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Silva manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ilmarinen decides to stand back up. Ilmarinen steps back and let's Silva get back to his feet.

Silva dives in and grabs Ilmarinen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ilmarinen pushes down on Silva's head and hops out.

Sandor Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Asko Ilmarinen.

Ilmarinen breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Ilmarinen feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Ilmarinen is standing up over Silva. Silva looks to escape but Ilmarinen dives into side control.

Ilmarinen decides to stand back up. Ilmarinen steps back and let's Silva get back to his feet.

Ilmarinen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Ilmarinen dives in for a single leg takedown but Silva sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Ilmarinen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Ilmarinen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Silva blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Ilmarinen's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Silva avoids the head kick by Ilmarinen.

Ilmarinen forces Silva back against the cage and clinches.
Ilmarinen tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Ilmarinen turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Silva wants to get back to his feet but Ilmarinen is dominant here and he's now got Silva's back!

Ilmarinen's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Asko Ilmarinen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Ilmarinen has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Silva uses from the top position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Silva went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Ilmarinen has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Ilmarinen can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Silva is looking to escape.
Ilmarinen throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Silva because Ilmarinen loaded up on that one.

Ilmarinen is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Silva is looking to get back to is feet but Ilmarinen passes into side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A very excited looking Asko Ilmarinen rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
