PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rod Farva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miller has chosen For Whom The Bell Tolls as his entrance music. Frank Miller will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rod Farva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Miller!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Chad Campbell and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Farva shoots in for a takedown but Miller shows good takedown defense.

Miller drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Farva throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Miller stopping the sweep attempt from Farva.
Miller wanted to stand there but Farva had control of the position.
Miller throwing strikes but missing.
Farva throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Miller tries to stand but Farva is controlling from the bottom.

Farva has his feet on Miller's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Miller fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Farva, pushing him back against the cage.
Miller lands with a short shot to the head.

Farva has picked Miller up - he's going for a ride! Farva dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Farva is nestled in close to Miller, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Farva has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Farva could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Farva takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Miller trying to control but Farva postures up.
Miller is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Miller wants to control but Farva is keeping busy.
Farva misses with a head shot. Miller uses the momentum to regain guard.

Miller pushes Farva off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Miller looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Farva is fending him off so far but Miller persists. Nope, Farva circles away and we're back to standing.

Farva shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Farva showed some decent athleticism there.

Farva is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Farva winds up and cracks Miller with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Farva throwing shots but Miller is blocking nicely.

Farva swings around for an armbar but Miller sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Farva's guard.
Farva manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Miller manages to get himself to full guard.

Miller is pulling down on Farva's head to control his posture.

Farva lands a couple of elbows.
Miller not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Farva will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Frank Miller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Miller closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Miller lands in his opponent's guard.

A close round but Frank Miller will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Miller changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Farva looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Farva manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Farva connects with a nice short shot to Miller's temple.
Miller wants to improve his position but Farva is controlling well.
Farva lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Miller is trying to control but can't.
Miller on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Farva working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Miller wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Miller shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Farva as he jumps to the side.

Miller breaks the clinch.
Farva misses with a jab, cross combination.
Miller misses with a wild combination.
Farva has a takedown stuffed.
Farva moves in looking to clinch but Miller pushes him off.

Miller closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Farva is trying to maintain a safe position but Miller gets an underhook and turns Farva into the cage.

Miller breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Miller throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Miller fails with an attempt to clinch.

Farva shoots in and drives through. Miller sprawls well.
The fight stays on the outside here - Farva looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Miller throws out a loose jab but Farva uses good head movement to avoid it.

and Farva counters with a nice uppercut.
Farva swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Miller crunches a lovely knee into Farva's ribcage.

Farva using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Miller has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Farva fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rod Farva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Farva is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Miller manages to pull guard.
Miller wants to control the position but Farva says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Miller throws a sloppy head kick and Farva moves out of range easily.

and Miller counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Miller can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Farva is looking to escape.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
You get the feeling that Farva really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Farva is desperately trying to improve his position but Miller has a good base and remains in mount.
Farva takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Miller trying to control but Farva is having none of it.
Farva keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Farva sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Frank Miller is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Rod Farva has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Farva is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Miller pulls his head out easily.

Rod Farva showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Miller has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
