PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Edmund Obrien (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Thomas Silva was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Edmund Obrien!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Thomas Silva!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Obrien avoids the body shot from Silva.

Obrien gets caught flat footed, as Silva shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Silva should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Obrien keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully.
Obrien is looking to stand up but Silva isn't so interested in that idea.
Obrien throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Obrien holds on and takes a little breather.

Silva stands up from Obrien's guard - Silva perhaps looking for a knockout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva connects with a looping right hand.
Silva tries to clinch there but Obrien circles away.
A counter left hand to the body from Obrien misses its target.

Silva looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Silva shoots in and gets a takedown into Obrien's guard.
Silva trying to control the position from guard on top but Obrien is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Obrien is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Silva is controlling him.

Obrien is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Obrien keeps control of Silva as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Obrien is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Silva pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Obrien pulls guard effortlessly.
Silva wants to control from the top but Obrien keeps moving.
Silva controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Silva is looking to stand up but Obrien won't let him.
Obrien keeping full guard, as Silva tries to pass.
Silva is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Obrien is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Obrien looking for a sweep. Not yet Obrien, not yet.
Silva stops Obrien from standing up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Silva throws a nice outside leg kick.

Silva fails with a takedown attempt.
Silva pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Silva fails to land the takedown.
Edmund Obrien has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Thomas Silva.
Silva tries a low kick but Obrien avoids it.
Obrien looks to score with a jab to the body but Silva is just out of range.
Silva is trying hard to land a takedown here. Obrien sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Obrien went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Obrien takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Obrien rushes Silva and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Silva tries to pull guard but Obrien won't allow it.
Silva is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Obrien is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Silva is defending well.

Obrien breaks from the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Silva throws a head kick but Obrien moves out of range.

Silva rushes Obrien and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Thomas Silva will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Silva is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Silva tries to clinch up but Obrien circles away and keeps his distance.
Obrien lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Obrien stuffs the takedown attempt from Silva. Silva gets slowly back to his feet.

Silva forces Obrien back against the cage and clinches.

Obrien jumps guard and drags Silva to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Silva tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Thomas Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Silva pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Silva tries for a takedown but Obrien sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Silva throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Obrien appears to be looking for a big counter.

Silva pushes Obrien off and gets back to his feet.
Obrien tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Silva looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Silva is controlling the pace.
Silva is looking to take a break and control but Obrien is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Silva is trying for a kimura here. Obrien looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Silva wins by kimura!
