Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Gonzalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leo Souza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Leo Souza is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gonzalez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Souza manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Souza with the counter takedown but Gonzalez avoids it easily.
Leo Souza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gonzalez falls off balance throwing a combination

and Souza counters with a single leg into guard. Gonzalez didn't expect that.

Gonzalez has his feet on Souza's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Gonzalez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Souza shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gonzalez is trying to defend but Souza finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Gonzalez flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Souza is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gonzalez is just riding it out for now. Souza eventually gives up the hold.

Gonzalez tries to roll over but Souza keeps him under control.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Gonzalez tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Souza has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Souza tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Souza wants to pass the guard but Gonzalez is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gonzalez is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Souza has latched onto it... Big trouble! Souza pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Gonzalez is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Souza!
