Souffrant comes to the cage accompanied by Nitro - Freight Train Solo. Phelan Whelan has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Maximillion Souffrant's chin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souffrant tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Whelan paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Souffrant isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Whelan stacks Souffrant on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Whelan!

and Whelan counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Whelan comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

and Whelan counters with a series of strikes. Souffrant will be more careful next time no doubt.

and Whelan counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

and Whelan counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Whelan.

Whelan wants the takedown. Souffrant is fighting it off but Whelan persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Souffrant's guard against the cage.

Whelan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Souffrant circles away quickly and effectively.

and Whelan counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Souffrant thinking.
Maximillion Souffrant is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Whelan fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Souffrant looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Souffrant is looking to sinch up a triangle. Whelan throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Souffrant's body to avoid the submission. Souffrant has instead reached around Whelan's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Souffrant arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
