Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Misha Avapetyanz!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Viktor Lagutenko and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Avapetyanz blocks the body kick.

Avapetyanz scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Odonnell explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Avapetyanz looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Odonnell!

Odonnell sneaks out the side door and pushes Avapetyanz away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Avapetyanz clinches with his opponent.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Odonnell as Avapetyanz tries to tie him up.
Avapetyanz working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Avapetyanz is trying to stall.

Odonnell breaks the clinch.

Avapetyanz clinches up against the cage.
Avapetyanz lands a nice uppercut.
Odonnell leaning his opponent against the cage.

Avapetyanz gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Odonnell regains guard.

Odonnell scrambles and gets back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Odonnell enables Avapetyanz to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Odonnell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Odonnell manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Avapetyanz fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Odonnell sprawls well initially but Avapetyanz persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Odonnell pushes Avapetyanz off and gets back to his feet.


Odonnell is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Oh Odonnell is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Avapetyanz drives through and clinches with Odonnell against the cage.
Odonnell seems to have got his legs back now.
Avapetyanz throws an elbow but it misses.
Avapetyanz looking to slow down the pace here.
Avapetyanz tries to circle away but Odonnell has him pinned against the cage.

Odonnell breaks the clinch.

Avapetyanz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Odonnell pushes Avapetyanz off and scrambles back to his feet.
Odonnell is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Odonnell manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Avapetyanz on his heels. He'll look to pass Avapetyanz's guard now, I'm sure.
Avapetyanz wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Odonnell manages to pass to side control.
Odonnell could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Avapetyanz pushes Odonnell off looking to stand but Odonnell dives back in and keeps control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Odonnell controlling the action here.
Avapetyanz is looking to escape.

Avapetyanz is kicking away at Odonnell from the bottom - trying to push off and stand up. Odonnell grabs hold of a leg and drops back for a heel hook! The two fighters roll across the mat, with Avapetyanz trying to push Odonnell off... Avapetyanz taps! He's tapped! This one is all over! A throwback to the old Pancrase there with an infrequently seen submission hold! Nice work.
