PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jarius Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leah D (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jarius Evans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Leah D!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Steven Brown and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Evans fails to land the takedown.
Evans keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
D tries for a takedown but Evans circles away easily

and Evans counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Evans is sneakily working for an arm triangle but D sees it coming and defends easily.
D is looking for a sweep. Evans is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Evans looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Evans is trying to control the action in half guard but D is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
D wants to improve his position but Evans is controlling well.
Evans tries to pass the half guard into mount. D knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
D wants to get back to full guard.
D is trying to stand back up but Evans is controlling him

That's one minute gone in the round.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
D misses with a takedown attempt

and Evans counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Jarius Evans has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Leah D.
D looks gassed!
Evans looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Evans moves nicely into side control.
Evans wants to lay and pray for a moment but D keeps working.
D really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Evans. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
D is trying to get back to half guard.
D is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Evans in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Evans has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Evans moves to back control.
D covering up well and avoiding damage.
D is in bad spot here.
Evans throwing sloppy strikes.
D tries to break free.

D is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Evans gets his way!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Evans patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Evans is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. D is defending well though. Evans let's go of the attempt for now.
Evans is trying to stick to D's back but D is turning into Evans. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Evans's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by D.

D advances to half guard.
D wants to control but Evans is keeping him busy.
D is figuring out what he wants to do next.
D wants to pass the guard but Evans is defending well.
Evans wants to control but D is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Evans is looking for a sweep. D is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
D wants to lay and pray for a moment but Evans keeps working.
D perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Evans is not content to let D control the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
D doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Evans counters with a series of strikes. D will be more careful next time no doubt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Evans swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Evans feints and as D raises his hands in defense, Evans changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
D working a defensive guard here.
Evans wants to control from the top but D keeps moving.
D tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Evans trying to control the position from guard on top but D is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jarius Evans dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



D gets caught flat footed, as Evans shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Evans is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
D is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Evans is looking to advance position but D has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
D controlling from the full mount.
Evans is trying desperately to improve position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Evans is working hard here to advance position.

D controlling his opponent.
Evans can't escape the position.
D looking to control but Evans is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
D sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Evans is squirming around, avoiding D's attempts to control the action.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Evans slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Evans gets back to full guard.
Evans manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Evans with shots to the head and body - D looks very uncomfortable down there.
Evans avoids the attempt from D to control.

D tries to improve his position but Evans has taken his back! Evans has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will D tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Evans pushes D away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:01 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jarius Evans!
