Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jose Rizal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rizal kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Smells Like Jose Spirit. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jose Rizal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Billy Smith!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Taro Takaoka and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rizal jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Smith will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Smith throws a hook but Rizal avoids it easily.
Rizal fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Rizal takes a shot right to the bread basket.
A slow jab from Rizal misses its intended target.
Smith throws a jab when Rizal was well out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rizal throws an overhand right that lands on Smith's shoulder, as Smith tries to avoid the shot.

Billy Smith is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Smith cracks Rizal with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Smith throws the left hand but Rizal avoids the punch easily.
Smith connects with a crisp jab.
Rizal wants to clinch but Smith slips to the side
and Smith cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

enabling Rizal to counter with a crisp jab.
Smith misses with the combination.
Rizal is looking to counter punch.
Rizal definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
No joy there for Smith, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rizal is looking to counter punch.
Smith's corner calls for a 1-2. Smith obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Smith keeps the fight on the outside.
Smith misses with an uppercut.
Rizal throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Smith has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Smith ducks under a wild hook from Rizal.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rizal tests Smith's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Smith drives through and clinches with Rizal against the ropes.
Smith has Rizal pressed against the ropes.
Smith misses with some punches.
With the fighters clinched against the ropes, Smith creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Smith tries a body shot but Rizal blocks it.

Smith lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Rizal backwards.
Smith lands with a short shot to the head.
Smith lands a left hand that snaps the head of Rizal backwards.

Smith is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Rizal is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the ropes enables Smith to keep the fight standing.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Smith.
Smith blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
A head punch on the inside from Rizal fails to land.

Rizal successfully pulls guard.
Rizal can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Smith controls the pace.

Rizal working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Smith wants to get up but he can't break Rizal's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rizal. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Smith slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Let's hope that Smith has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Billy Smith dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rizal throws a jab but it's blocked by Smith.
Smith lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Smith scores with a decent looking hook.
Billy Smith seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Smith throws a combination that misses
and Smith takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Smith moves out of range as Rizal strikes.
Smith looks to throw the jab but Rizal is out of range.
Rizal misses with a body shot
and Smith counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Smith darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Rizal has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Rizal there as he acknowledges the shot.

A cross from Smith lands.
Smith has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rizal lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rizal scores with a crisp jab that stopped Smith in his tracks.


Smith is rocked!
Rizal walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Smith drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Rizal swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Smith's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jose Rizal!
