PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hector Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Finkle John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davis comes to the cage accompanied by Not Afraid. Finkle John will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hector Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Finkle John!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, George Francis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
John misses the shot to the body.
Davis is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by John.
John throws a nice inside leg kick.
Davis looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? John is fending him off so far but Davis persists. Nope, John circles away and we're back to standing.
John swings and misses with a hook to the body.
John lands a nice hook to Davis's body. Davis takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Davis takes one to the chin there.


It looks like Hector Davis has been cut.
Davis uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from John.

Davis closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
John keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Davis wants to control but John is keeping him busy.
Davis thows a huge punch but John dodges it nicely.
John preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Davis working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
John is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Davis scores with a couple of nice shots.

John is looking to get back to full guard here but Davis has managed to pass to side control instead.
You can see the frustration on John's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Davis tries to score with some ground and pound. John controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Davis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Davis throws an elbow but John slips to the side and avoids it well.
Davis wants to lay and pray for a moment but John keeps working.
We've been hearing good reports from Davis's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Davis looks up at the clock and then as John takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Davis smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Davis throws a strike aimed at the side of John's head but John avoids it well.
John felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
John is not content to let Davis control the position.
Davis landing strikes.
Davis lands a nice forearm strike.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
John is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Davis's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
John is looking to control Davis's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can John avoid being mounted?
Davis looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Davis misses with a jab to the body
and John counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

and John counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
John slips under a jab.
John dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Davis. That did some damage!
John misses with a looping left.
John drops his hands momentarily and Davis takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
John fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Davis has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Davis misses with an uppercut. John saw that one coming.
Davis looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
John is looking to land body kicks.
Davis connects with a jab.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from John, right into the meat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
John jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
A looping hook to the body misses from John. Davis does a little dance to reset his feet.
Davis appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
A shot to the liver by Davis. Beautiful body shot.

John throws a series of punches but Davis moves out of range.
Finkle John is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Davis tries to move into range but John moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Finkle John seems to be getting the better of the standup.

and Davis cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Davis dodges the punch combination from John.
Davis half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Davis misses with a hook. John ducked under it nicely.
John scores with a shot to the body.
John avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
John lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
John misses the jab.
John has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
John looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

The crowd cheers as Davis lands an impressive looking overhand right. John doesn't seem phased though.
Davis checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Davis fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
John swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
John just misses with a punch to the body.
John keeps Davis at a distance using the push kick.
John just misses with a punch to the body.
Davis steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from John. That one must have hurt.
John swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Davis misses with an uppercut. John saw that one coming.
Davis takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
John misses with a wild body shot.
Davis takes one on the button.

Davis looks to land a left hand but John moved out of range nicely.
John misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Davis.
John tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Davis is able to avoid easily.

Davis looks to land a left hand but John moved out of range nicely.
John throws a perfectly timed hook that sends Davis crashing down! Davis tries to stagger back to his feet but John just hammers him until the ref stops the fight! A confused Davis asks the ref what just happened. Poor fella.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Finkle John!
A relieved looking Finkle John thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
