Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Borys Mankowski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gareth Fawkes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Borys Mankowski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gareth Fawkes!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Josh West and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mankowski looking to score a takedown here. Fawkes is defending well but Mankowski drives through and ends up in Fawkes's guard.
Mankowski looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Mankowski's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Fawkes can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mankowski stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fawkes swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Further stalling from Mankowski.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mankowski.
Mankowski looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Mankowski steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Fawkes.
Fawkes looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Borys Mankowski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fawkes throws a right hand that misses
and Mankowski counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
No luck for Mankowski with that takedown attempt.
A little jabbing left from Fawkes on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Fawkes missing with a left hand there. Mankowski was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Fawkes gets caught napping as Mankowski dives in and scores a takedown. Fawkes manages to retain guard.

Mankowski has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Mankowski loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Mankowski is pushing down on Fawkes's leg trying to pass to half guard. Fawkes is fighting to maintain full guard but Mankowski has managed to sneak the leg through.
Mankowski perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Mankowski wants to pass the guard but Fawkes is defending well.

Mankowski is looking to advance position but Fawkes won't allow it.

Mankowski seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Fawkes for as long as he can get away with.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Fawkes will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mankowski looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Fawkes looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Borys Mankowski. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mankowski gets the takedown into side control.
Fawkes dodges the ground and pound from Mankowski.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The referee asks Mankowski politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Mankowski prefers to stall for the moment though.

Mankowski is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Fawkes looks calm but he's in trouble here. Mankowski gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Fawkes is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Mankowski lets go of the hold and Fawkes can pop his arm back in it's socket.
