The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Sanchez or perhaps it was just good defense by Conrad, which made it look bad.
Conrad tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sanchez paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sanchez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Conrad avoids it really well and circles away.

Conrad scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Sanchez is trying to maintain the position but Conrad is very close to passing his half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Conrad is looking to take a break and control but Sanchez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Conrad is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Sanchez is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Conrad scores with a couple of nice shots.

Conrad throws a body punch but Sanchez moves out of range.

Conrad shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sanchez's guard.
Conrad looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sanchez is on top in guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Conrad can do anything to dispel that myth.

Conrad has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sanchez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
