PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robert Burgess (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Hoopsick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Robert Burgess!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nick Hoopsick!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Winston Alpacca and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoopsick keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Burgess is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Burgess scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Hoopsick is holding Burgess down, trying to stall.
Hoopsick is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Burgess is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Hoopsick!
Burgess looking to finish with strikes here!
Hoopsick blocking the ground and pound.
Burgess will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hoopsick is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Hoopsick's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Hoopsick regains half guard.
Burgess works his way into full mount!
Hoopsick regains half guard.
Burgess thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hoopsick manages to get to full guard.
Hoopsick throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Hoopsick managing to control the position.
Let's hope that Hoopsick has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Hoopsick looking for a guillotine here but Burgess defends easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burgess trying to control but Hoopsick is working from the bottom.
Burgess looking to sit in guard and control but Hoopsick gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Hoopsick slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Burgess not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hoopsick throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Burgess works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hoopsick content to stall in guard here.
Burgess manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hoopsick manages to get himself to full guard.

Burgess wants to control from the top but Hoopsick keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Burgess is looking to work some ground and pound but Hoopsick has wrist control.
Hoopsick pulls Burgess in close to prevent any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Robert Burgess will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Hoopsick feints and as Burgess raises his hands in defense, Hoopsick changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Burgess is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Hoopsick manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Burgess postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hoopsick is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Burgess, into his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Burgess is working an open guard so Hoopsick takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Burgess tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Hoopsick manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Hoopsick feints the counter takedown.
Burgess darts in looking for a takedown but Hoopsick gets double underhooks and turns Burgess into the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Burgess dives in and grabs Hoopsick's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hoopsick pushes down on Burgess's head and hops out.
Hoopsick throws a head kick that misses.
Burgess is looking to counter the offense by Hoopsick and move into the clinch.
Burgess shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hoopsick defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robert Burgess. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Burgess shoots in but no luck this time.

Hoopsick throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Burgess tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Hoopsick is in Burgess's guard.

Hoopsick drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Burgess manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hoopsick has Burgess in his guard.


Hoopsick has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Burgess should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Hoopsick has tightened it up now! Burgess should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Nick Hoopsick!
