The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mathis dives in for a single leg takedown but White sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Joe White seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
White takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Nice sprawl there from Mathis as White shoots in.
Mathis gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows White to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Mathis has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. White has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Mathis gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from White.

White shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mathis sprawls well. Mathis wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. White gets slowly back to his feet.
