PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matt Serra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam McDonough (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McDonough has chosen Break On Through as his entrance music. Adam McDonough will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Serra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Adam McDonough!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, John Roberts and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDonough lands a nice shot that snaps Serra's head back.
McDonough scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Serra doesn't seem bothered though.
Danga de danga de dang - McDonough scores with a four punch combination!
Serra takes a shot right to the bread basket.
McDonough jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
McDonough displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Serra.
McDonough let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
McDonough thuds a left hand into Serra's body.
Serra shoots in but McDonough avoids the takedown attempt easily.
McDonough keeps the fight on the outside.

Serra closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Serra in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Serra is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but McDonough is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

McDonough is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Serra is controlling him well.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Serra tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Serra controlling from side mount.
McDonough is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Serra tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Serra has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Serra tries to advance to mount but McDonough denies him.
McDonough wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Serra is on the wrong end of a nice combination from McDonough.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Serra throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
McDonough connects with a good right hand that stumbles Serra. Serra circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
McDonough connects with a single shot there.
McDonough lands a nice hook to Serra's body. Serra takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
McDonough digs a good hook to Serra's body.

Donk. McDonough catches Serra right on the button with a cross.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

McDonough connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Serra misses with a few strikes there.
Nice uppercut there from McDonough.
McDonough lands a jab.
McDonough scores with a three punch combo!
McDonough wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adam McDonough dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


McDonough lunges at Serra with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Serra's hand.
We've been informed that McDonough has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Serra takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
McDonough darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
McDonough swinging wildly here.
McDonough feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Serras jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Serra on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Serra shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Serra was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McDonough taking punishment in the form of punches.

Serra goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, McDonough rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Serra's guard! Nice work there by McDonough!
Serra tries to strike from the bottom.

Serra is controlling McDonough's posture.
McDonough stopping the sweep attempt from Serra.
McDonough wants to get up but he can't break Serra's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Serra is pulling down on McDonough's head to control his posture.
Serra has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Serra manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. McDonough manages to get himself to full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Serra stops McDonough from standing up.

Serra lands a couple of elbows.

Serra gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

McDonough with a hook.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Serra is defended easily by McDonough.
Serra fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Serra takes one on the button.
Matt Serra is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
McDonough lands a jab.
McDonough comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
McDonough lands with an uppercut that bounces Serra off the cage and back into range.
A jab from McDonough finds it's way through Serra's defenses.
Serra shoots in for a takedown but McDonough shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Serra. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McDonough stuns Serra with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Serra dives in for a single leg takedown but McDonough sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
McDonough cracks Serra with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Adam McDonough seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Serra takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
McDonough scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
McDonough lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
McDonough has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Serra tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. McDonough manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
McDonough connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Serra momentarily.
Serra swings for the body but McDonough moves out of range.
McDonough lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Nice shot by McDonough.
McDonough ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
McDonough scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Serra doesn't seem bothered though.
McDonough connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adam McDonough showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Serra's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Serra drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
McDonough lands with a big left! Serra is wobbled badly! McDonough comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Serra to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.
