PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sanjay Singh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Barnett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sanjay Singh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Josh Barnett!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Skip Squint and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Singh. Barnett does a little dance to reset his feet.

Singh takes the fight into the clinch.
Singh is trying to break the clinch but Barnett is controlling him.

Singh's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Singh connects with an inside leg kick.
Barnett displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Singh throws out the jab.
Barnett with the counter takedown but Singh avoids it easily.
Singh motions for Barnett to come forward. Singh throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Barnett tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Singh fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Barnett has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Singh is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Singh pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

It looks like Josh Barnett has been cut.
Singh does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Barnett tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Singh throws a right and a left that both miss.
Singh throws a jab but it's blocked by Barnett.

A nice inside leg kick there by Singh. That's going to slow Barnett down.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Barnett thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Barnett is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Singh knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Barnett goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Singh has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Barnett but great work by Singh.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Singh jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Singh lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Singh here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Barnett blocks a jab.
Singh misses with a few strikes there.
And Barnett tries to counter it with a takedown but Singh pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Singh connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Barnett momentarily.
Singh throws an overhand right that lands on Barnett's shoulder, as Barnett tries to avoid the shot.
Barnett avoids the body shot from Singh.
Barnett drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Singh defends it well.

Barnett has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Singh.
Singh feints a jab promting Barnett to slip. Singh then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Barnett slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Singh loads up on a big right hand but Barnett slips the punch.

Ouch! a nice leg kick from Singh, right into the meat.
Singh is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Barnett can do to turn this around?

Barnett is looking to take a break and control but Singh is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Barnett tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Barnett has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Barnett wants to control but Singh is keeping busy.

We've been hearing that Singh has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Barnett is stalling here. Singh is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Barnett seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Singh has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Barnett is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Singh doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Barnett.

Barnett looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Barnett is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Singh defends it well.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sanjay Singh.
Well Singh has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
